All linked pages render perfectly under Safari 4 beta on OS X... Haven't tried anything else.

13px=10pt

http://sureshjain.wordpress.com/2007/07/06/53/

Try 10 or 11px

To be honest, I don't want the text to be smaller....
Perhaps Kureshii or Jarudin have an idea what the exact cause could be?

Could you try body { font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin: 0px; } instead of body { font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin: 0px; }

Dont know if this changes anything under windows, but under linux the text becomes smaller and fits into the boxes...

those different font-sizes wouldn't be a problem if the template used relative positioning for the info-boxes.

the planets description with relative positioning - looks exactly the same, and the content has at least some space to expand until the background "runs out".

So that's probably the source of the problem for some Operating Systems you think?

At the moment I think that using absolute positioning makes it easier to make changes to the description. I don't quite grasp yet how the relative positioning works when setting up the description, I mean, I see what you changed, but I think I'll have trouble setting up the description in this way.

Different font-sizes are the nightmare of any webdeveloper. Typically the font-size is 10-12px. All other font-sizes are rooted on that either by using percentages or 'em' which is basically the same thing.

Hard coding sizes is generally not done as you might run into problems like these. The relative positioning works, you could even use floats which is perhaps more straightforward.

Something like:
Code: [Select]
.infobox {
float: right;
clear: both;
margin-bottom: 10px;
margin-right: 10px;
}
Should do the trick.

the problem is das different OS (even browsers) are interpreting font/css styles differently and absolute positioned layers can't react on these changes

for those basic layouts it is actually easier to do with relative positioning (be it float:x; or position:relative;) because you don't have to worry about setting the position and height of every individual box in relation to the others. you just define the space (margin) between them and they line themself up neatly. the size of every indivual box is set by its content.

I tried the float suggestion of Jarudin, does this make a difference?

I must say the result of the relative positioning looks somewhat more to my liking, the floating leaves no room for aesthetic "spaces" it seems, it cuts things very close on borders.

Can I do something with padding?

Blubart has the following code
Quote
padding: 5px 10px 10px 10px;
     margin: 5px;

What does this do exactly? I read somewhere that padding goes clockwise, so 5px would be distance top-infobox to top margin picture, 10px distance right margin-right side infobox, 10px distance bottom margin-bottom infobox and the final 10px would be distance left-side infobox to the text? What does the 5px margin do?
Am I on the right track?

padding is the space between the content of the layer and the border of the layer
margin is the space between the border of the layer and the next layer (or document edge)

the format works like this:
padding: w,x; = top/bottom, right/left
padding: w,x,y; = top, right/left, bottom
padding: w,x,y,z; = top, right, bottom, left
padding-top: w; ...etc.

Just increase the width of the boxes a bit to fit more text in.

Planetes torrent infobox needs some left padding for the text.

Try changing the font to something like Arial, rather than the default Calibri? I believe this is what happened with Godfoster's original Code Geass torrent, and he fixed it for his remake. Ask him about what he did.

Great, I'll fix up my other torrents later. You'l have to chase down the other users who used the same template (and might cause the same problem for you) yourself though...  ;)

I think the best will be if kureshii updates the template but activly searching for torrents where this template was used is a bit much  ;)  If i find one per chance i will just point the uploader of that torrent to this thread. would be better

Alright, can anyone let me know if my offer is working right now? I had to keep absolute positioning on the title image & database links, or else the info boxes would be forced below them, but I doubt it'll be a problem.

It's perfect now...i think using the verdana font @ 11px size is what did it.
