The Old and Missing Fansubs Wishlist.
« on: September 22, 2009, 10:42:22 am »
As I'd mentioned/promised awhile ago, this post is a list and standing request for fansubbed anime that could be uploaded to BBT, but isn't. In addition to fansubs that aren't on BBT, I've pointed out a few old-fansub torrents that could be improved.

I know I've come off as an R1 supporter and fansub detractor in the past. But the truth is I do like fansubs, despite the flaws I complain about. Almost all of these requests will be for anime released before 2004, so let me answer a few questions ahead of time:

1) "Don't we already have subbed versions for some of these shows on BBT? What's the point of requesting these files?"
Ans: Those subbed versions are R1-rips. Since many are discontent with R1 subtitling, I want to bring more diversity and options to BBT in the form of fan-translated versions. I know KAA and other single-audio ripping groups edit the R1 subs in some releases, but there's still something to be said for having the original fansubs instead of a version of the R1 subs.

2) "These are all low-res DivX3 crap. Who would want them when they can get DVD/HDTV/Blu-Ray Rips?"
Ans: I don't doubt that many of them are LQ. However, I believe that the translation diversity they bring to the table, as well as the historical value they have for fansubbing culture, makes them worth having. Not to mention the boost to BBT's reputation as the place for rare, hard-to-find files.

3) "Why don't you get the files yourself, you lazy bum?"
Ans: Believe me, I would if I could. But since I didn't start downloading anime until 2005, most of these files were out of circulation before I became interested in the historical side of fansubbing. So that's why I'm calling on help from the veterans who might have this stuff on HDD/DVDR/CDR, as well as the warriors of ed2k and others who know P2P better than I do. (I actually do have a few of these releases, but not very many.)

And as a secondary reason, I wanted to liven up the Requests Forum by requesting files that are known to exist and are not blacklisted. As opposed to the usual "Can anyone upload <popular Funimation series>?" or "Can anyone upload this 139-episode series from 1985 that's never been released in English?"

So without further ado:
The Wish List:

TV Series:
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

Movies:
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

OVAs:

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

Older fansubs that are on BBT, but could use improvement:

So you finally made this post. I must say, those are quite rare releases.

It's interesting suggestion...
But I think vhs-fansubs have more historical value so anyone who have non-digitalized tapes must rip it.

The requests aren't primarily for historical purposes. A lot (if not all) of these requests have R1 subs available here. Some people prefer fansubs more than r1 subs.

Most R1 subs I've seen translate or leave out honorifics altogether. I prefer my -sans and my -chans to Mr. or Miss.
I’m in your noun, verb-ing your related noun.

I'll try to find those of Samurai Deeper Kyo, and maybe a few others.

How about we post here if we are going to upload something. Just so one doesn't use many hours only to see a offer one day before offering yourself?

EDIT: Found 11 episodes so far of SDK.

Hi,

does anyone know, where I can find the original filenames? I'm searching for "Ani-Net Ahh My Goddess Movie" or  AnimeInc's X (2001) TV?

Thanks,

Marvin

The Japanese DVDs of FLCL came with English subs. Are you sure the ones you listed are actual fanmade fansubs?

so... for these files though, did u actually want them to have the original file names?   oddly enough i have uh.. alot of them actually i think but i used to rename my files.

I'm one of those ppl that prefer fansubs over R1 dvd rips personally.  ALso, one issue though is that.. i see myself being far lazy to make a proper offer (it's one of the reasons y i never bothered to do any u/l'ing)

It doesn't really matter what Zalis wants (in this matter), because he has no power to grant offers.  Now, if you gave him the files, he could upload them without checking for proper names, but there's a reason we trust him with that power. ;)

The problem with most offers is that they're done extremely quick or that the user doesn't have much experience.

Now if you just sat down (had some coffee) and read the Wiki, FAQ & Rules then you would be able to make a decent offer. You can also lurk around the offer section and them make an offer when you're more confident.

I have deleted most of what I had on that list. This is all that's left...

Hellsing TV
1-3 from Soldats (without original file names)
4-8 from AnimeParty (without original file names)
13 from AnimeOne (without original file name)

EDIT: Let me go through my DVD binders and see if I can dig anything else up.

EDIT2: I also have the Anime-Empire sub of the Cowboy Bebop Movie (again without the original file name)

Good start.

You can also lurk around the offer section and them make an offer when you're more confident.

This helped me the most, I lurked there for at least a week before making my first offer, to see how others did it and what the common "mistakes" were.

Anyway, if you (hesho89) don't know how to get the original file names, you can always create a topic in the uploaders forum, I'm sure there will be people who can help you out.

I'd also like to add a request for The Hawks fansub of Steamboy.
