In casual speech, no native speaker of English (at least, American English, don't know about the rest of the world) would normally say 'this night a few hours ago' in the sentence above. It sounds too awkward. We just say 'tonight' and refer to it in past tense. 'Tonight' refers to either the upcoming evening or the current evening already in progress. Either usage is correct.
On topic, I just finished a bowl of Crunchy Almond Oatmeal Crisp cereal (with milk, of course), which is one of my favorite things for breakfast.
