Watt Poe English Subs

Is there anybody willing to TC/QC them? They are quite bad, on the level of R3 subs: spelling is mostly OK, grammar is not, and there are some timing issues in them :(.
I'll provide the raw for them and Italian subs for comparison.

Hey. I'd be willing to try TCing/QCing these subs. I've never done any fansubbing work before, but I think I probably have enough Japanese to do some basic TCing. I'm a native English speaker too, so I can definitely fix up the grammar in the subs and make them flow better. I would just need the RAW with Japanese audio and the English subtitle file.

Assuming the following offer is approved, couldn't you just take the video file as a RAW and translate from that?

He IS doing TC in addition to QC. It is easier to fix a mediocre translation than to make a new one from scratch.

Yeah, that's the video file I'm working from. (I didn't ask for the Italian subs since I don't know Italian.) Like Al_Sleeper said, I'm doing both QC and TC. The subs are actually quite poorly timed, so I'd like to try to re-time them completely. As they are now, the subs are watchable but need a lot of improvement -- I don't think any native English speakers were involved with translating or editing them. I'm also re-translating many lines completely, especially where they've been incorrectly translated. I will try, though I can't promise, to also do original TL for the two untranslated songs, but if I can find the Japanese lyrics for them it'll make it a lot easier for me. (I'd provide lyrics in romaji and an English translation for the songs, probably without karaoke. Timing and typesetting karaoke is really beyond my current skills.)

So far I watched the film this morning and have started to edit the subs. It's a cute children's story, although it's not particularly amazing. It's a bit cheesy and the moral of the story is presented pretty heavy-handedly, but it has that charming retro art style and is still a short, entertaining watch.

I finished my first attempt at the opening credits. Here are some pics:

I might end up changing the font, although I like it a lot. It's called Dream Orphanage. And I know my colours (EDIT: and font size(s)) are a bit off lol. I still think it's pretty decent for being my first attempt at typesetting.

EDIT: In case anyone's wondering, the weird resolutions/bad cropping is because I took these screenshots with the print screen key while watching the video with MPC-HC and then cropped them using MS Paint. XD

Hello Morellet,

I am interested in helping you on this project. Please reply here or contact me at [email protected] on what needs to be done.

My understanding is that there are two surviving raws of this OAV. One is an Italian dub badly filtered with Warpsharp and has indirect subtitles based off an Italian > English translation, while the other is the untouched 432p Japanese raw whose single copy on the Internet is a corrupted one. If you have a functioning raw I am willing to do TC and QC, and perhaps find independent timers and encoders to retime and recode a 432p Japanese raw, supposing you can provide it to me.

Hey swordfysh.

Thanks for offering to help. I just have one RAW encode -- the one Al_Sleeper provided/muxed.

You're welcome to QC or help TC if you want. Getting someone else to do timing is pretty unnecessary though, since I'm a good timer. (I've timed everything Magai's released except Fantasy Railroad in the Stars, and I've also timed a few other releases on BBT [and some that aren't on this tracker].)

If timing is your specialty, I can leave that to you. The QC and TLC can be passed to me. Let me know when you've retimed the script and I'll take a look at it with the workraw you have. Unless the raw is of questionable quality, I probably won't need to clean it or recode it.

Reencodes are rarely accepted on BakaBT. You should be aware of it.
Video quality is pretty decent for an ancient VHS rip: https://bakabt.me/torrent/176131/watt-poe-to-bokura-no-ohanashi-xvid-432p-80sotaku

That is fine. Do get back to me whenever timing is done, I will probably need a workraw to do the TC when it's ready. Thanks in advance.

Hello Al_Sleeper / Morellet,

It's been more than a year since I heard of a response. Have you made any progress on this sub and still want my involvement, or has the project been completed? Please message me back whenever you're around the forums.

I'm not actively working on it at the moment. I also don't like the movie that much to be honest, so it's not a high-priority project for me. It's something that I'd like to get back to eventually, but that I can't realistically work on right now (because of being busy between school and work).

If you want my current subs/files, I don't mind sending them to you. They're probably kind of messy though, since this is one of the first projects I ever worked on. I've changed/refined how I do certain things subbing-wise since then, so if I were to get back to this, I'd want to pretty much redo everything based on my new practices. (I time and typeset differently now for instance than I did when I started this project.) I'm not going to be able to work on this again until at least the summertime, so if you'd like to take it on or pick up where I left off, you're welcome to (assuming Al_Sleeper doesn't object).

Not to worry. As long as we are in accord, I have no problems taking the current raw and script and making it right. I can organize a small team to complete the project and present a release candidate for you to review so it meets BakaBT standards. We can continue this conversation through email or PM if you wish. Note that my email has now changed to [email protected]
