Ashita No Joe 2
« on: July 27, 2014, 08:52:33 pm »
Horriblesubs released a 1080p Crunchyroll rip of Ashita No Joe 2,  It's not added to AniDB , neither fetched at animetosho so no screenshots/ file, subtitle info are available unless you download an episode.  I believe it's hardsubbed because when I tried to rip only the subtitles few months ago the .ass file downloaded was empty.
Does anyone know if it's worth it?

Much better translation and editing wise than Takara, and the video quality is heaps improved as well.

Lame sentence, right :P?

Hmm... I don't think 1080p CR rips are usually allowed. Plus if it's hardsubbed that's especially sucky. Then again, Takara's translation was based primarily off the French subs, so it wasn't actually translated directly from Japanese. If the CR translation is a lot better than Takara's, maybe someone can OCR it or something so it can be watched with Takara's release. Ultimately though I think I'd rather just wait for Saizen...

(of course, the 1080p stream wins)

Thanks for the comparison. Yeah, HorribleSubs's 1080p rip definitely looks a lot better than Takara's encode (upscaled to 1080p). And good to hear that the HS version isn't hardsubbed! But I'm still not sure if it can actually be uploaded on here, since I thought that 1080p CR rips aren't usually accepted...

As far as I understand it certain persons from Saizen asked HS to rip this.
No idea why only 1080p though.

Ah, interesting. Maybe CR's stream is the best video quality they could find or something.

Yeah, they most likely want it to make a release encoded from CR's 1080p video.

I know, but it's entirely possible CR's video looks better. It wouldn't shock me, anyway.

Are you shure? I'm downloaded 1st ep. and checked - it is hardsub. In AniDB this marked also as hardsub.

My bad, it's hard subbed after all. The comparison method I'm using extracted an .ass file, so I assumed it was soft subbed.
Never actually opened  the file, but like Shreevatsa said above, it's an empty file.

hehe, I guess Saizen's not going to encode from CR's video then...

Why would they use CR's when they can easily get the Blu Rays?

Well, as herki said, it's possible that CR's video is actually superior to the Blu-rays. Blu-rays aren't always produced/mastered well, although I don't really know that much about this topic. macros74 already said that apparently some people from Saizen were the ones who asked HS to rip these files in the first place, so it would make sense that they would be interested in using CR's video to encode from, but that seems unlikely now since the subtitles are hardsubbed.

Or maybe to release a BD Encode with Edited Crunchyroll Subs.

How come there isn't a BLuray rip of the first movie (1980) yet here or in nyaa?
I see a 1080p one in a private tracker but the file is big (around 12GBs)

Saizen also plans to sub this movie at some point.
