you should check the manga for some slight insight and possible spoilers, but since theres barely any chapters i doubt there'd be much spoilers.
the story is very promising, much closer to log horizon with a tinge of maou yuusha, in a sense the protagonist is an overlord.

ohh and i added some character info.

After reading what's available of the manga... it's odd.

They have a Log Horizon-like story of modern-ish man entering into his MMORPG character's body in a stereotypical fantasy setting that just happens to be a villainous Lich in this version. Which is fine, but the story the author's telling within said world really isn't necessary for that to have happened. He or she could have just wrote a story around a Lich Overlord who decided he wanted to be an adventurer because he's excessively bored experiencing his unlife in a tomb no one has ever managed to come close to clearing before.

What I was expecting was more, well, normal guy ends up as demon king in JRPG, hijinks ensue. However, the Man's personality is affected by being in his Undead body to the point that he's more like a game character than a player emulating one.

the novel would give you more details but that'd be a huge spoiler.

as for the momonga becoming an adventurer, its only at the start.
this quote is from the novel:

edit: to bring in more hype in this incoming anime, i can't wait for this scene to happen.

I am not liking the use of CG in that PV, let us hope that they do not overdo it like in Kingdom.

The art style of the anime looks so different than the source; a lot more childish looking.

I'm really hoping it does not turn into a dot// hack style plot, anime has been able to handle a lot of things but mmorpg's are not one of them.

the novel, from what i heard (since it hasn't been translated throughout) is pretty good, unless they botch the adaptation like bleach then i doubt it would be bad.

the story progress in this case is most similar to a mix of adventure RPG and a bit of militaristic plot.
if i'd relate it to some other series then it'd be close to maou yuusha with more emphasis to adventures.
or wait, i guess it would be much more closer to berserk if this is the case, specially the gore level if only they hadn't used CG.

while on the topic of mmorpg stories, from what i recall, those with action packed plots haven't gotten an animation yet.
to mention one, legendary moonlight sculptor (if ghibli were to take on that immortal legion arc it'd be beyond awesome, imagine mononoke with orcs and zombies instead of boars and humans).

Oh god. Funimation and their crappy quality.
Video suffered from horrible framerates.

First episode was as expected. They just introduced the characters leaving the rest for later.
Great voice acting and good character designs. (As you'd expect from MadHouse). Looking forward to more of this.
I admit, compared to the manga it is somewhat less interesting but I am not complaining.
Hopefully, someone will sub it and we will get a decent video ;D

Well, after watching the 1st episode, I was pretty pleasantly surprised; I'll keep up with this one.

I can't wait for him to really unload on someone with that staff of his ;D .

I thought there was something wrong with my playback software. I've been watching a lot of HS's releases since I am impatient and all of their videos have been really choppy.

It's too early to tell whether this series will be good or not, but from what I've seen so far I am very cautious. It is walking a very fine line. It does a lot of stuff right but it also does so much wrong. I'll have a better conclusion when the next episode airs.
Since nobody online can ever present an intellectual discussion and internet discussions bring out the worst in me I have decided to abandon all forms of social media, message boards, and media comments. If you want something from me feel free to send me a message.

Video issues are pretty common in HS' releases.
