RIP Sir Christopher Lee.
« on: June 12, 2015, 07:58:27 pm »
On June 7th the world of cinema had a huge loss. Sir Christopher Lee, an actor of great talent, vigour and excellence passed away.
He was 93 years old, but nonetheless he was awesome. He kept acting till the very end.

Sir Christopher Lee has starred in over 200 movies, but his most memorable part, for me personally, is his Saruman in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. Even though a villain, his Saruman was loved and respected. It was beyond perfect.
He was a huge fan of J.R.R. Tolkien, and was the only person on LOTR's whole crew and cast who had actually met Tolkien.

Sir Christopher Lee's death made me sad, but he had lived a long and memorable life. I hope he can find peace in the Grey Havens. RIP.

As a tribute to Sir Christopher Lee and to celebrate his life, we are making the fantasy and sci-fi keywords freeleech for the weekend.

As a child, back in the 50's, I always enjoyed even the worst B movies that he was in.  I think that it was his professionalism.

His voice in Power/Symphonic Metal was amazing, i still don't know how a 93 year-old man could have such good voice for metal.

May the force be with you, Sir Christopher Lee.

I've watched may Christopher Lee films in my life. It seems he got better with age. Some of his finest work in his last years. I will miss his villain portrayals and his many Dracula films. May he RIP!

I didn't actually realise he was THAT old until I saw the news of his death. Amazing to keep going that long.

As amazing as this actor was, it's kind of weird to have it as a site wide announcement rather than just a thread in General Discussions. Just saying.

Anyways, I'm just glad we were able to have him around as long as we did. His death isn't a sad one. He lived a long life and accomplished much. It's unfortunate that he had to go but he left us with decades of brilliant work through the years, and we couldn't have asked for anything more.

Needed to tie in the sci-fi/fantasy freeleech announcement in somehow.

Can't say I am emotionally attached enough to anybody to mourn a death and I don't believe celebrities should be treated specially, but my atheist prayers go out to his family.
Since nobody online can ever present an intellectual discussion and internet discussions bring out the worst in me I have decided to abandon all forms of social media, message boards, and media comments. If you want something from me feel free to send me a message.

Oh come on, man. Surely you've seen him in something. The man holds the Guinness world record for most acting roles.

LOTR seen, but too many years ago.

The hobbit, I saw the old version many years ago. Probably wasn't in that one.

I did think I recognized him from SW, so perhaps.

He was certainly one of the actors that I can remember watching on a pokey little 12" b&w portable in a run down caravan in the middle of Essex on a late Friday/Saturday night back in the 1970s. Good times!

Thanks for everything.
