I'll have to say Berserk too. Its shocking but not just for the sake of being shocking unlike crap like Elfen Leid and other pure gore-fest torture porn rubbish!

Check out GANTZ too. Like Berserk, its shocking in a more refined, tasteful way. Its also pretty damn bizarre, which is another plus for me!

Also the guy above me said Uzumaki/Spiral. This guys on the money!! That manga is weird as hell but thats what I liked about it. I don't think I read much after the "light-house" and the "Snail" chapters. Not because I lost interest, but because StopTazmo took all their files offline! That site just seemed to have almost every manga you could think. Thousands upon thousands... Berserk, GANTZ, Uzumaki, it was all from there!

First shocking one for me was Ibitsu. That horror manga was one the best manga I ever read.
If someone has anything similar to it, please let me know. ^^

Uzumaki was my first one and hell i'm still shocked by that one. I got over it and i'm a fan of Junjo now, but fuck it got me bad.
Did you read the manga first, or watch the live-action movie first?? I did the latter and then read the manga. I love both, but I think the manga's even more of a headtrip.

I haven't watched the Live-Action, and probably won't in the near future, but man the manga IS a headtrip. There are far more and better artists at SHOCKFACTOR than Junji Ito (Maruo is one of them, that piece of shit), but fuck, Junji got me good the first time.

Uzumaki got me hard. I started reading without knowing it was a horror manga  >.<  It left me feeling sick for a week. I haven't finished it since then, am still scared of the trauma.

Also Hunter x Hunter when I first read it. Only some scenes, but were quite shocking for its brutal violence. Already get used to it now.

Wait -- you didn't finish Uzumaki?? Honestly, it's really worth it. And then you should watch the live-action film, hehe.

And @carks, I've only watched anime by Maruo. I should read some of his manga, although after watching his movies I don't really feel too eager to subject myself to more of his work.

My mind froze for a moment when you said uzumaki got you hard.  :-|

I read the manga years ago but I don't remember being traumatized. Hmm... maybe it was too traumatic that I've come to repress the memory of it. I do remember Franken Fran though and I think that was my first. I don't particularly search for gore so I haven't read many of that genre.

Silent waters run deep.
Silent humans, on the other hand, are usually just asleep.

if this was anime i would've mentioned Alien9, i was 6 i think when i watched that.
that big whale alien assimilation thing made me realize the concept of horror.

though on that regard, the manga is far more brutal.

Probably also Battle Royale. I was used to Dragonball Z and One Piece so you can imagine my surprise when a girl starts having sex with a boy she just killed or are in the process of killing.

Tomie.

I accidentally read part of it at the library when I was 11, because I thought manga = comic = for kids.

That shit traumatize me.

Berserk and Battle Royale for me, they didn't provide shock just for the sake of shock, they wove an amazing narrative that to this day am impressed with.
