I'm thinking of hosting another murdergame with pretty pictures, but before I go to the effort, I need to know how much interest there is.

I've also made it so every player gets a special ability, some more useful than others.
The rules have (/are being) rewritten to allow more chances to deceive.

The theme for this murdergame is a simulated real world capture the flag type setting. There can only be one winner, there are no teams, nobody is your ally.

Anyway, here's the current progress on balance.
Remember, these aren't finished.


Okay, so no flags will be murdered.

This is a forum game where players send actions via private message (hereon out referred to as 'PM') to the gamemaster (me). The aim of the game is to capture every other players' flag, without losing your own. The winner is determined by whichever player collects all active flags or is the only player left.

Everything is not so straightforward though, some players will do anything to win, including murder!

Class-specific rules
Players will get to choose their preferred role. A coin-toss will determine if they are successful or not. If unsuccessful, the player's role will be randomised (they may still potentially land the desired role)

Notes / WIP section:

Class specific ideas
Observer
Can use a turn to 'see' how many flags all other players have and report it on the news.
This action can be used limitlessly.

Drug addict:
Abuse drugs to run really fast. Allows player to target two players in one night.
Negates effects of defending player allowing 100% success with no risk of being killed (first target only)
Overrides order of turns
This can only be used once

Killer:
player targets defending killer
Killer has two-in-three chance to kill attacker

Paladin
Chivalrous knight, bound by honor. The Paladin plays by the rules and thier countless victories come from actual skill and experienve, rather than underhanded tactics.
The Paladin has no special abilities, but through training and dedication has superb defense.
While defending, defence is impenetrable to all except the
drug abuse skill.

Necromancer
Moves very slowly, highly skilled in the dark artes.
Necromancer can raise the dead to do his or her bidding.
Necromancer has two options of risen dead.
1. Collect flags - rising from the ground the undead snatch away the flag of a random victim. Success rate depends on the dead  puppet's decompositional state. The first night after death success is 100% on any given undefended flag. Each night thereafter, this rate drops by 25% until the corpse is too decomposed to use. This allows Necromancer to target two victims in one night, but requires a corpse.
Because of the great strain on their concentration, controlling the corpse  leaves Necromancer unable to defend in the event of an attack against them.
Necromancer can only control one corpse at a time and must wait until it decomposes plus an additional day before casting again. A corpse must be available.

Necromancer can order the corpse to attack another player. Killing another player requires greater control of the corpse and as such Necromamcer must stay close to the subject. This sacrifices both the ability to defend your own flag(s) and your ability to steal more while in use. Exerting greatercontrol over a corpse will cause it to decompose twice as fast as regular. Necromancer cannot change to flag capturing after ordering a corpse to kill and visa versa. Murdering a victim with a controlled corpse will decompose the victim at a rate double that of normal.

Succubus
Its a succubus, does it need explaining?

Dex, can you fix your avatar before the game starts (probably next weekend at this point)
And preferably keep the same one throughout the game.

like I dun no, and if we only get 8 players, drop out necromancer, succubus and drug addict.
...maybe Paladin too.

You need more players for that much roles, a lot more.

Definitely, I've balanced it for now so everyone has a slightly high advantage but in only one area. I've got to detail it further, but the killer(s) will have the biggest advantage so everyone needs to band together like usual, but this time I made it so everybody is even more suspicious than any other game previous.

For it to work though, I figure (with Succubus and one more role) we need about 22 or more players to make the game last 5 to 10 days depending on what goes down.

Start advertising :p I'm going to see if I can drag more people in from other forums.

The minimum involvement required is one post and one PM, surely you can spare ten minutes at night on your phone or something?
I know sometimes the game can take up to an hour to respond to, but the bare minimum one busy day to carry you through to the next day won't hurt, right?

I'm gonna flesh out the killer role more and succubus roles. I had one more class planned, but for two reasons, I won't include it.
1: I forgot it before I had a chance to balance and type it out
2: The low playercount means I may need to drop classes anyway.

Due to an apparent lack of interest, I'm going to have to put this round on hold for an indefinite period of time.

I'll finish balancing the game and making the OP fancy later, but for now I probably won't look at recruiting players until after the new year.

Once you're actually ready and fully prepared you'll have to PM people who commonly play these games to let them know you're hosting one. A lot of people (myself included) don't regularly check this section of the forum. Don't do that unless you're going to be serious about actually properly hosting a full round though.

Yeah, of course. I'll need to check with everybody if they'd still be participating.

I'm currently thinking of holding off until maybe February, at this point.
