Question about Bonus Points
« on: December 08, 2016, 10:29:41 am »
Hi All,

I kinda had a thought/questions about the bonus point, why can't we exchange them for removal of download instead of adding to upload.

Is there a reason why we can't do this? Just a thought really.

I know would rather obtain points to remove download instead of add to my upload.

Thanks,
Patrick

It would have literally exactly the same effect on your ratio; why would the site's staff want to code such a useless option?

Not exactly. Decreasing download to zero will allow to achieve infinite ratio, which is desirable for some users with very low download.

I agree with Al, I have a low download and I would rather get it down, I kinda regret getting it so high.

For me being able to remove down is highly desirable.

Sorry, but that's actually wrong.

1Gb upload, 10Gb download, ratio = 0.1
Let's pretend you remove 1Gb.
1Gb upload, 9Gb download, ratio = 0.11

Let's now assume you further remove 5Gb.
1Gb upload, 4Gb download, ratio 0.25

Now let's look at the system we currently have in place.

1Gb upload, 10Gb download, ratio 0.1
Add 1Gb upload
2Gb upload, 10Gb download, ratio 0.2

And now, a further 5Gb
7Gb upload, 10Gb download, ratio 0.7

So which do you think is the better option?
And these are just small numbers. The bigger the number, the more enormous the discrepancy.
For example:100Gb upload, 1000Gb download, ratio 0.1
Remove 5Gb
Upload 100Gb, download 995Gb, ratio = 0.10050251256
Instead, add 5Gb to upload
Upload 105Gb, download 1000Gb, ratio = 0.105

For example for me I have the below stats

Uploaded           4686 GB
Downloaded   31.2 GB
Ratio                150.267

If I were to remove 1GB I would have the below stats

Uploaded           4686 GB
Downloaded   30.2 GB
Ratio                155.166

If I were to remove 5GB it would even be drastically better with

Uploaded           4686 GB
Downloaded   26.2 GB
Ratio                178.855

I would have to add about 895GB to my Upload to get the same effect as removing 5GB

After you go over 1.0 ratio, the equation reverses.
What's the point once you're past 1.0 though? Whoopie, you've got a big number. Congrats - so does 92% of BBT.
