setting up a proper seedbox is worth the trouble of learning linux, specially if its a long-term investment.

Knowing your way around linux can help with a lot of things, anyway.

The general concept of Unix isn't really dependent on the Linux flavour anyway.
I think it's just that most people don't want to dig into places requiring root privileges if something goes haywire.
