Title: µtorrent Seeding settings
Post by: rabimba on July 28, 2008, 07:24:22 AM
I use my µtorrent for all the torrent needs I have.
Since now I've used the normal default settings.
But after this month i'll be away from home for a month and half. I have a bsnl unlimited plan.
And My Connecton speed is 256kbps.

I wanted to set my torrent to only seeding mode while I'm away. But I was watching that while I'm getting very good download speeds my upload speeds are very very slow.
even when i'm finished the download and no other dwonalod or upload is going on.

Is there a way i can speed up my Uploads? I can't upload at my line speed. I've even set the Upload priority first.
What The superseders have to say?
what settings should I use?

I have my DHT disabled. else all settings are default settings

how slow is your slow upload speed in rate ? if your upload bandiwth is 256kb then you should expect to see about 30 ish in actual upload speed

Mine is 256kbps, but I can achieve 40kBps peak so I set it at that, it usually hovers around 38-39. Try numbers in that range, maybe starting at 40 and going down, until you find one that seems to be give you best results. What your ISP says they give you and what you can achieve aren't necessarily the same figures.

It's all up to your provider. I've got a 2048/384 kbps connection and the top upload speed I get is around 47 kBps, but it's mostly between 35 and 40 kBps.

If your upstream speed is 256kb/s, then your THEORETICAL maximum is 32kB/s. Take about 10% off for overhead, and you'll end up with a figure around 28kB/s.

You all need to learn the difference between b and B.

They meant 1 M bit, not byte, so 128 kbyte at peak  (assuming I remember the conversion correctly).  In reality, expect a little over 100 kbyte for your uploads.

Or just divide by 8 (1 byte has 8 bits) and you'll see that the maximum upload speed for a 128 kbit connection is... 16 kBps (that's the maximum - it can be any value between 1 and 16 - it's up to your provider.) And just for the record: the symbol for byte is 'B', for bit it's 'b'. You should all try to write case sensitive to understand the problem. Remember (or learn): '1 B = 8 b'. [Why do I feel like I'm sitting in preschool?]

Agreed...  I have no idea what my provider advertises at, but I can upload at a constant 130'ish kB/s, but downloading I can't tell too much since it is dependant upon others.  Currently, fastest I've hit combined is 842 kB/s, but I wasn't seeding at the time.  Normally I can cruise at 500 kB/s if enough seeders are available.
