Title: Can't improve ratio. Have nothing to seed.
Post by: Mysteryman on January 22, 2009, 12:16:17 AM
I am new to this site and I am somewhat new to the whole seeding thing. Well, I was downloading and I deleted the original files to conserve HD space. My ratio is poor now and I can't seed any files.

Yes, I have Read the FAQ (http://wiki.boxtorrents.com/index.php/FAQ), (Gelatin Fish Sandwich)  but I am confused. Yes, I read similar topics but I am still confused. I heard I can download a torrent elsewhere and seed to boxtorrents. How do I do that though?

One more thing: From what I read on the uTorrent site, it says I can download and seed at the same time. How come I can't just download a torrent and seed it to BoxTorrents?

From the FAQ:
Quote
"I got warned but my hard drive crashed/I got a virus/computer got thrown out of window/[Insert other reason] and I lost all my files and I can't seed and Q_Q unwarn please"

You got yourself into that situation, you'll have to fix it yourself (http://wiki.boxtorrents.com/index.php/For_First_Timers).
There're a lot of other trackers, such as tokytoshokan, animesuki, ... . Google them. If you're downloading from other trackers, just make sure you're downloading similar files as the ones on BxT (check the filenames and especially the fansub group) if you wish to use those to use those files and seed them on BxT.

As long as there're other leechers, the torrent should be able to seed while it's still being downloaded i.e incomplete. Various ways to check this out under uTorrent is looking for: upload speed (or seeding speed), uploaded (amound uploaded), ratio (download/upload ratio).

How can I find a torrent that is hosted on multiple trackers? I searched, but can only find that the torrents were on the BoxTorrent tracker, thus I could not download or seed.

When I finally do find a torrent, how do I configure uTorrent to seed to BxT?

As has been mentioned if you really want to recover from the hole you're in you'll need to get the source files from another source.  Here's a hint:  isohunt.com  once you've got the file(s) come back to Box and get the .torrent file from the tracker. Here's the tricky part, add the torrent to utorrent but don't start it. Go into the properties and choose "set download location" to point it to the files you already have, then do a "force recheck" so that utorrent knows you already have the file, now you can start it and it'll go into seeding mode.

Yes thank you. I found a ghost in the shell torrent that is on both sites (same torrent name, same files, I double checked). Though, this can be a while........

Fixing your ratio isn't an overnight thing, have some patience :)

^ Yeah I know. As I said, this can be a while. I'll be busy this weekend anyway, so I am in no rush.

Two more questions: uTorrent says "Hostname not found". What does that mean? Also, can I seed from a different computer?

You can seed from as many computers as you like as long as each individual torrent is on only one at a time.  Seeding the same torrent from multiple computers confuses the tracker and you'll lose stats.

Hostname not found means you didn't download the torrent from Boxtorrents, or you've been messing around with the tracker URL and screwed something up :\

Thanks for all help!

oh, one more thing: I looked at a list of trackers and some say they are working, but others say "offline (timed out)", or "connection closed by peer". Another one says "connection not made because target machine actively refuses". My download is working fine, but I would like to know what those mean.

Trackers are down, no longer exists, requires registration, ...
As long as you're connected to seeders/leechers, no need to worry about those.

You see that a lot when getting torrents from aggregators like isohunt .

This happens when you're connected to multiple trackers or running multiple torrents connected to different trackers.
My advice, finish what you started first before jumping on other torrents.
