Closed beta has been going on for awhile. =p
There's another game similar to HoN made by IceFrog and uhh.. the other guy who worked on DOTA that basically is the same thing iirc.

As for previous people, those that was on the project prior to DotA becoming balanced and huge, Eul and Guinsoo? Neither of these has much to do with modern dota and inspire no trust in me.
Where did you read that Icefrog was helping with League of Legend or Heroes of Newerth?

Ahhh those were the names I was looking for. It's Guinsoo and Pendragon working on LoL, they work for Riot games iirc. It's been awhile since I've played actual DotA. >.>

Pendragon was never involved in development as far as I know. He ran the community side and brought it over to LoL forcing Icefrog to create a new community site...
-
Like I said, I haven't followed actual DotA in awhile and since I've been exploring HoN a bit, I haven't followed LoL either. In any case, thanks for clearing some of that up.

My friends and I all have been playing HoN, and its pretty well done.
It really is DoTA on crack, they didn't change anything major. But the things they did change were done perfectly.
There is a rating system, so you can easily tell how good someone is. The game keeps track of all stats. (creep denies, creep kills, kills, deaths, and assist's.)
And the match making system is simple, and really effective.
I have not played the other one however. So I cant say whats better of the 3, but out of dota and HoN, HoN is clearly better.

What you listed here has been done on DotA already. Several leagues had ways of measuring skill which included stats, they then used those stats to create even teams.
Other changes not mentioned here I won't know about since I havn't played any but dota. That I havn't played for half a year now, burnt out on getting into certain leagues, ruined the fun in playing when I set goals and achieved them so I just quit.

soo anyone actually buying it?
-
Tried it. It's gorgeous but I doubt I'd buy it. The original DoTA with upgraded graphics is not worth my dollars. I haven't tried that other knock off yet (League of Legends). I'll leave the DoTA fanaticism to my boyfriend. XD.

I love the original DotA. Far from an awesome player but still love it. I have been playing the HoN closed beta for awhile now and its alot darker than the original and in my opinion doesn't play just right. There isn't really different styles of play its just run at each other with best attacks blazing. Stealth and invisibility powers usually last 6 secs or less. Art is nice and I agree that they have some improvements but still a long way to go in my books. Also the characters don't sit right with me. I find it hard to like alot of the characters in this one.
On a side note I am also in the League of Legends open beta at the moment and I am definitely buying this one. Great style, great characters, great gameplay. My only downside is that they could have made the bases abit better. Oh and you can't deny kills in this so. League of Legends implements 'Long Grass' which is all throughout the maps. They can hide players and make ambushing enemy a big part of the game even if you are a tank. If I had to describe it I would say... DotA after entering 'Toon World' from Yu-gi-oh. LoL also has a few other features such as Rune Pages where you can add little buffs to your characters and Masteries which is like talents in WoW except this just has offense, defense and support and they are universal instead of just one page specfic. The ability to change your characters skin is another thing.
LoL > HoN. Thats just me though.
Will post some images later.

from what I heard LoL has a little "gunbound" in it does it not? (by this i mean that you earn points and purchase items outside of game to buff up your hero.)
-
Yeah it does. I am not sure what you purchase at the moment however I know that you can purchase skins and that once the first 2 weeks of launch are over you will be restricted to the first 20 champions and you will have to buy more with your points.
-
anyone interested in playing HoN? my IGN is PinkMonsoon looking forward to play with you guys someday :D
-
It's alright, the game wasn't aiming to be innovative or awe inspiring since it's a carbon copy of DoTA and expects people who like Dota will like it and I do like it.
PSR is nice, no longer will you have to guess if someone is good or not, same with the leaver % and that they automatically can't join some games that have strict rules about leaving. The new item shop is pretty well done as well, no longer do you have to click and find items to build your recipe all you have to do is find the end item and click it to see what it requires and just build it from there.
Although the number 1 thing that I really really fuckin' love is the the reconnection option if you d'c, god knows how many time I accidentally dropped out of a game due to stupid shit like hitting the sleep button and internet restarting itself.
Overall, if you liked DOTA you'll obviously like HoN unless you don't dig the seizure inducing graphics from some abilities, a downside to it is the fact that there are only about half of the hero roster than DOTA's hero roster but they are still in beta phase and just like DOTA it will continue to evolve.
Is it worth 30$? Probably not, well my friends don't want to play DOTA anymore so I'm going to be forced to buy it, but I will always love the original more than it's carbon copy.
