Title: Your longest anime marathon...
Post by: Hayaku on December 26, 2012, 06:06:47 PM
So, I've been considering myself weird sometimes. During the summer of 2012, I had some of the most boring weeks ever due to plans failing and bleh bleh bleh, so I had the chance to catch up on my collection of anime I hadn't seen already but had planned to for a long time. So I decided to go for Rurouni Kenshin... I ended up starting with the OVAs (4 of them), watched the whole t.v series (94 episodes), and ended it all with the movie. In one sitting. No sleep, some candy, some water and some energy drinks.
This was the longest time I had ever spent on anime in one sitting.

How long was your longest anime marathon? What anime did you watch? Did you also feel as good as I did when it was over? (I felt surprisingly good considering the amount of time I had spent in front of the computer)

How long were your longest anime marathons?
40-50 episodes of one anime in a day.

Quote
What anime did you watch?
One Piece, Naruto, Rurouni Kenshin, DBGT, Fairy Tail, Rave, KH Reborn!

Quote
Did you also feel as good as I did when it was over?
I got enough sleep, I ate homemade lunches, chocolates and drinks in my mini-fridge -- I guess I felt good.

To be honest, I would actually tried to limit the maximum no. of episodes per day, and try to mix other things in like games, projects, family chats, etc. This would let me have that "waitingless" feeling, which is indeed has a positive effect on me, personally.

I've marathoned my to-watch folder a few times before. A 1-cour series in the morning, a 1-cour in the day, and a 1-cour at night. That's around 40 eps. I do this any time I build up enough. Sometimes it will be a combo of a 2-cour and a 1-cour, and maybe even a few movies.
I generally do take a dinner break, and intermittent snack refills.

I just don't skip sleep, food, showers, and normally not OP/ED, so that severely limits the possibilities. Perhaps up towards 20 eps during one single day? I know I've finished a couple of 26-ep series during a weekend, but that includes sleeping in the middle, so not pure marathons... ;)

Some years ago I did around 40-50 One Piece episodes each day for around 2 weeks (until catched up with the most recent episodes, think it was Shabondy arrival at that time), sometimes I didn't even sleep..

Mind you I was in a complete depression at that time, had severe sleeping problems and had secluded myself of everyone and everything so feeling good was subjective. For quite some time the only thing I did from the moment I woke up till sleep was eat, drink, smoke and watch anime.

Maybe like 13 eps + some other things, in a day.
But that was like several years ago o.O.

Yeah, this would be my regular "schedule" a few years ago. But nowadays, it's hard to find that many good anime series, and if I decide to go for one I am less fond of, it gets hard to watch that much cr*p in one sitting :)

I don't know why I didn't take dinner break (or even a quick shower for that matter, but I took one when I was finished so all's well that ends well) but that hunger feeling never really hit me so I just kept on watching...

Not to be judgemental, but some of you guys are nuts.  How do you watch that much stuff in one sitting and remember any of it?  How can you stand to do one thing for that long without getting stir crazy, or your eyes getting too tired?  It's gotta be a young person's game.  Even when I was in my mid 20s and all I was doing was working and living at my parents' place, I spent no more than 2-3 hours a night on anime.

In recent memory, a few years ago I think I watched at most maybe 12 or 16 episodes of something with my roommate.  Normally, though, if I'm watching stuff with my roommate, it's 4 to 6 eps maybe once a week.  And a few times a week, by myself I'll watch like 1 or 2 episodes of something before I go to sleep.

I'm like you. I've tried watching more, but I get bored of watching anything for too long.
I think my record is... 15 episodes...?

...although, I did read about 300 chapters of Gantz in a row.

I guess my longest marathon was when i started Bleach i watched all the way through soul society arc and half way throught bount arc (roughly 80 episodes). Nowadays i don't watch so much because i can't find time to do it, otherwise i would surely be watching animes 24/7.

Simply when i get really addicted to something i don't realize the flow of time nor most of my physical conditions e.g. hunger. And yeh, i am nuts.

I don't think I've ever watched more than 12/13 episodes in a single sitting. I remember watching Kino's Journey in one sitting one night when I was in 8th grade, and that was a lot of fun.

I usually get restless if I'm watching/reading something for too long. Now I consider watching 5-6 episodes in a row a "marathon".

That's about where I'm at.  When I've seen that much in one sitting, I feel like I've actually made a dent in my "Watching" list.

I skip OP/ED, but I don't miss out on eating or anything when I marathon. I usually don't stay up past my limit either.

I'd say probably around 50 episodes or so has been the most for me... I guess that's about 16.5 hrs, which seems reasonable.

I don't call it marathon unless I either watch the entire series or watch an equivalently massive amount if it's a large series, like 15-20 episodes in a day or something and resume immediately when I wake up the next day and repeat similarly to the previous day until the series is finished.

Damn, I look like a chump.

Most I've ever done was all of School Days in a sitting and all of Elfin Lied in another.

Other than that...  Maybe like 10 episodes of Inyuasha or TTGL in a sitting.

Just a few days ago

4 days - Monster (74 episodes)

By the 4th day Im getting sick of it due to the slow pace and some repetitive stuff, good thing the finale was alright

It's great if you're watching a show on your back log, because most anime series are only 12 episodes. Getting through a good show in 2 sittings like this is a pretty comfortable "marathon" if you ask me.

I never went past watching more than 24/26 ep. series in one go. I felt so saturated afterwards I couldn't watch anything for a while, so I gave up marathoning.

I've marathoned my way through a few 24-26 episode seasons in a day but not usually more than that. I just have to much else going in life to allow more than that. Pulling an all nighter is a big no-no as I have a daughter to wake up with in the morning.

I think I watched all of Saki in one evening (with a couple of breaks to go eat dinner etc), which is 25 episodes, and I think I might have finished one or two other 24-episode series in one sitting in the past too (Clannad AS spring to mind), but I don't recall ever watching more than that in one go. And I rarely watch more than 5 or 6 episodes at the most these days; I usually don't have time, and even when I do, I often just get bored after a while and have to go do something else.

Yeah, I lose myself in the anime sometimes when it is THAT good. Time just flies by without me paying attention to it. I rarely have time for this when not on summer break with college and my part time job. I just immerse myself in the anime and stop worrying or thinking about everything else. And this just makes me feel so good. Yeah, I am weird (as I stated in the opening comment) ^.^ But I am sure I'm not alone in this.

Not in any way; I also get totally immersed in the best series and would like to go on for ever (Shana, Inuyasha, and Kenshin come to mind), but have learnt that the price to pay later for skipping sleep and other stuff is just too big...  ;D

Personally I'm used to being behind a computer for 14-18 hours a day and have perfect sight on that distance. The "the more your behind a screen the more your eyes are tired" is a myth and is actually the opposite, people not used to be behind a screen for long have troubles with their eyes.
Also as being a 80's (rpg)gamer (so yes I'm not really a "young" person anymore...) I'm quite used to repetitive and long (and information-intensive) sessions

Though I can't completely refute the nuts part though  :P

If you have problems sitting and paying attention to one thing for long hours it's not that we're "nuts" but moreso that you have ADD/ADHD to some varying degree.

I don't have trouble remembering though. I have a superb memory.

Getting tired and needing a break after 3 continuous hours of doing the same thing is not ADD/ADHD.  Spending 6 or more continuous hours parked in front of a TV or monitor concentrating on a show is a long ass amount of time no matter who you are.  And remember, I am a software tester.  Between work and home, I can easily spend 60 to 80 hours a week sitting in front of computer.  Without interruptions, it's not unusual for me to spend 3 solid hours at work on a single task, if I have a large project to work on, and if I'm at home playing a game I like that doesn't require a lot of concentration, 4 to 6 hours of gameplay is not a big deal.  Even then, I take periodic breaks -- I get hungry, need to use the bathroom, get interrupted by other people, etc.

Truthfully though I don't know any adults who have the time or interest to spend watching TV or movies as much as some folks here do.

That's a double-edged sword, especially when you get the feeling you're remembering stuff you've already seen at your first watch of a new series, same goes for reading books and watching movies, though.

I spent a night and most of the following day watching One Piece, it was like 400 episodes in before I brought myself to actually watching it. I don't usually do marathons or the like, but I was ill and wanted something light hearted to curl up with.

Ah yeah.... Am too familiar with the price that comes with spending a longer amount of time on anime (or whatever for that matter). But still, I must say that I felt great even after the ~40 hours I had spent on Kenshin...

However, some years back (think it was 2008) when I first started watching One Piece (which seems to be a popular example here) I started out with watching ~20 episodes in one sitting during the evening/night. But that was it though. I got one hell of a headache the morning after (didn't get enough sleep) and of course my pale blue-ish face didn't really make my parents happy... After that, I went back to watching about 4-5 episodes of it a day until I had caught up. I don't think I could've watched 40 episodes a day at that time even if I were to force myself. Might re-watch the whole thing again though and see if I can squeeze in that many episodes once I get some free time ^.^

I think I watched Eve no Jikan in a row, then watched about half of Eureka Seven, slept and then watched the rest.
I think I pull a lot more manga marathons since they are easier to absorb, than anime which requires more attention. I'm also haven't read much manga so trying to catch up a series like SSDK(which is 500 chapters) took several marathons over the course of a month.

I think FMA:Brotherhood and Kara No Kyoukai were other long marathons, but I usually just watch until I feel I'm too tired to watch anymore.

Did you also get the sudden urge to study really hard (and eat chips while studying) for a while after watching it? I got obsessed with my studies which actually paid off when I got my grades during my first year in high school....

Ga-rei Zero, One Piece and School Days.

For One Piece it was more like severally catching up on the show so a lot of my time during two weeks in the summer went with One Piece.

Ga-rei Zero I marathoned in one sitting and School Days too. I can't imagine marathoning a two-cour anime. That's just too many eps. I like to mix it up a bit. Watch a couple of movies I've been meaning to. Then I'll feel like finishing a couple of video games, then perhaps some anime shows I've been wanting to watch. I do make it a rule to actually finish stuff before I love on because leaving things undone just annoys me to no end.

Latest is anime where I finished Two no Quon, Record of Lodoss War, Fate Stay Night, Bubblegum Crash, Ano Natsu de Matteru, Now and Then, Here and There, Fate Zero. Now I am playing Darksiders II and Dark Souls so it's more video games right now.

Yeah, I can't marathon a show if it's boring. I just lose interest and stop after a couple episodes. Then I end up doing like 1-2 episodes a day or something, or move on to another series that's more interesting.

The longest would probably be Index season 1 or code geass r2 in a day..

For the rest i usually split them to 3-4 eps a day, or more if it's quite interesting..  ;D
