Title: [Recomendation] Looking for comedy that does not rely on any "cheap" stuff
Post by: brunoais on August 10, 2013, 09:15:49 PM
I'm looking for comedy that is kinda different form most comedy I've been seeing lately. I want to watch in a more variable way than having about the same kind of comedy.

What I'm after is shows that rely only on comedy to move on and live although It can have a setting to work on to help it but nothing else.
The story should be minimal and must not have a sudden story when it reaches the end (unlike the major "tradition" in the most recent anime).

As for how comedy is made, just about anything goes, breaking the 4th wall, slapstick, and just about any other comedy trope goes. The ones that will go less include ecchi even though some will not do any bad as long as the jokes are not based on them.

Please, do not recommend anything that is already on my list (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=mylist&uid=428886) but use it to understand my tastes.

Seems like slice of life helps getting this effect I'm after but it is not, by any means, final or limiting.

Here are some examples and how much they fit into what I'm after:
nichijou (http://anidb.net/a8168) (not a full fit but fits well)
Azumanga Daioh (http://anidb.net/a106) (also not a full fit but they fit well in this)
Hanamaru Youchien (http://anidb.net/a6646)
Acchi Kocchi (http://anidb.net/a8890) (fits quite well in what I mean (I've only seen 7 episodes yet, though))
Lucky Star (http://anidb.net/a4777) (almost... but I think it was worth to mention)
gintama (it would fit the description but it is not my kind of anime)
Namiuchigiwa no Muromi-san (http://anidb.net/a9479) (according to stuff I read it should fit like a glove to this)
Android Ana Maico 2010 (http://anidb.net/a911) (minimal story, comedy plot driven. (btw, it has only a single act for the whole series!) it would be a good choice even with it's nudity at start)

Examples of what does not fit:
Aria (just a very calm and feel well anime, not a comedy)
To-love-ru
Aki Sora
Angel Beats! (very good anime but it does not work around a comedy it is there just as part of the story)
Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou (very good anime but not a comedy)

Even though I don't have manga stated here it is as welcome as anime is as long as it follows what I'm requesting and for those, if it is already in the anime list that is marked as watched, then if I'd like the manga, I have already read the manga.

Definitely Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou.
I'm surprised you haven't already (it's not on your list). It'll be fun.

A couple short ones:
AIURA
Teekyuu
Detroit Metal City

It was on my "to get" list ;). Anyway, now I know this is something to add to this collection.

Joshiraku (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=8899)
Cromartie High School (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=1099)
Humanity Has Declined (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=8276)
Kuuchuu Buranko (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=6677)

They may have some form of a story, but it's far from the main focus.
...except maybe for Kuuchuu Buranko, but I'm confident it's different from most comedy you've been seeing.

Humanity Has Declined (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=8276)
This does not seem to be what I requested, though :|.
Thanks for the rest, seems like nice stuff :).

Why? IMHO, it fits. Do you mean it is too much story-oriented?

Forgot Chitose Get You!! (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=9158)

Humanity Has Declined does have a "story", but it's very convoluted and the jokes don't suffer from it. I'd even say it boosts them.
It's not like Nichijou, though. If that's what you want, skip it :P

I'm using these as reference...

Anyway, I don't think that it is something I won't like, It is just outside what I requested ;). It can also be that I hadn't specified what I wanted well enough :).

Great Teacher Onizuka
Thank you!
Ranma ½
It's on my wishlist. I'm reading the manga first. Thanks anyway
Slayers
How come I had forgotten this on my wishlist? Hum... There, bumped to maximum priority.

No problem. Glad to hear that these fit your criteria as humour and comedy animes. :)

I can't think of anything else that would be more hilarious than these 3. I was about to recommend you the School Rumble, but it's in your list. ;)

I don't really know if GTO fits into this description. I just didn't find anything that states that it doesn't.
Ranma 1/2 seemed to fit as much as I can tell.
In Slayers, I was told it is somewhat like Lost Universe in therms of serious business vs just comedy. So this one seems a fit like azumanga daioh.

GTO is like the Cromartie High School in a sense, but with this pervert and really funny teacher. If you check this anime, you'll understand.

Slayers do have a really high amount of comedy. I stopped watching Slayers, because I lost track of the seasons and OVAs and am unsure of where to start off and continue.

About Ranma ½, you already know the answer.

Take care! :)

Pugyuru is bizarre, outrageous, off-the-wall humour.
Yurumates also has some great laughs.  Different artwork in the 3D versions.
Mainichi ga Nichiyoubi has some great laughs and some outrageous situations.
Your Under Arrest is a nice long comedy series centered on an unlikely pair of police women.
Genshiken is not really laugh-out-loud funny, but it's got some great otaku humour
