Most (read 99%) Dragonball (z) names were based on puns or a play on words. The original DB was meant to be more more funny, then action based. Like Bulma(bloomers=under garments) and her son trunks and daugter Bra. Goku's offspring is foodbased, etc... That is why I preach not watching American dubs. You miss shit like that.

Re-watch the series subtitled. (really the only way to enjoy it anyhow).
You'll experience an entirely new anime. (Don't start with Z, start with the original Dragonball)
