German death metal
Gotta love the bass

I'm looking for something new (to me) in the doom/death genre, along the lines of November's Doom, Draconian, October Tide, Daylight Dies, certain older My Dying Bride or Paradise Lost songs.  Anything like that -- semi-growled vocals, slow tempo, overall mournful sound.  Piano, violin, or other classical instruments would be fine, but not required.  The first 3 bands are of the biggest interest to me.  Anyone have any recommendations?

Amorphis' first two/three albums, particularly "Tales from a thousand lakes"

Sins of thy Beloved (Gothic Death/Doom)

Mars De Grises

Maybe a touch more upbeat than you're after, otherwise I'll be reaching for Esoteric and Evoken which are more Funeral Doom...

Bleh, not really my area I guess. Still, couple of ideas there perhaps.

I completely forgot about Amorphis’ older stuff, I’ll have to go back and give some of that a re-listen.  I’m a fan of later Amorphis, Elegy on, and kind of forgot about their doom/death roots.

Not really what I was looking for right now, but I do happen to have these guys on my list of Gothic bands to check out when I get in the mood for that sound again.  Reminds me a lot of Sirenia.

I liked some of the music, although the solos felt a bit stale.  I’m definitely not into gore in my metal, though, so I’m gonna give these guys a ‘pass’.

This I liked probably the best out of what you listed, again not quite what I was looking for, but something I’m going to give a closer listen to later.

In truth, I know nothing about Funeral Doom and have been kind of wanting to check some out for a while.  Just haven’t been sure where to start.  These 2 bands are definitely more experimental than I’m accustomed to, but they’re something I’ll likely give a closer look.

So, yeah, nothing exactly what I’m looking for right now, but there are a few interesting bands worth checking out.  Thanks for the ideas.

Funeral Doom's a weird one to get into. I've mostly stumbled into bands I like here; like I said, not really my forté, but I wasn't sure if it was anyone elses either. If you're on facebook, ask here:
