I never liked Wintersun...don't see what the fuss is about. Just sounds like a fusion of power metal and black metal.

This album is crazy...it's a Norwegian jazz band trying their hand at metal. Very avant garde.

Did you check out the new Ihsahn? Their saxophonist features quite prominently.

Yeah I did. I'm indifferent about Ihsahn though.
Black Bombaim - Titans is a stoner rock/heavy metal album with jazz influence. The sax actually blends very well and doesn't seem out of place at all.

Wintersun, Kalmah, Children of Bodom, Norther and other bs metal sounds very good to teenagers. No idea why, when I was young, only NWOBHM bands sounded good to me. :D

^ hey! I resent that statement! Well, Kalmah, CoB and Norther IS very generic and for people who just started listening to metal. But Wintersun!!! Dude, don't say anything bad about Wintersun!!! :(

NWOBHM -> Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Saxon and Diamond Head!!! All hail England!!! No Maiden... Maiden bad. Only 10 songs are great... the rest is... let's just say not for me.

Ohhhh, I totally forgot Judas Priest!!!

PS: Any details about the new Rotting Christ album, anyone?! They haven't released anything for quite a while now. Huge fan of AEALO and Khronos albums by them. AEALO was 2009 or 2010?!
Just checked Metalstorm.net ... AEALO was 2010.

Powerslave, Piece of Mind, and The Number of the Beast...those alone are 26 great songs.

NWOBHM -> Black Sabbath
Lolnope. Black Sabbath was early doom/stoner doom. By the time NWOBHM started, they had switched over to plain hard rock.

Nope and nope again.

Motorhead is a rock'n'rollish Hawkwind offshoot Lemmy started around 75-76, way before the wave came rolling in. Judas Priest were around as early as 72-73, playing some kind of hard rockish psychedelic thingy.

None of them were part of the NWOBHM

^ and ^^ Hmm, I guess you'll are right.
@Froody In those three albums, only about 9-10 I actually like.

You must be an Iron Maiden fan. Do you like Megadeth/Metallica?! I have noticed this weird trend among all my friends and others... People who like Maiden, somehow end up hating Metallica/Megadeth. But people who like Megadeth/Metallica hate Maiden.
Personally, am a Megadeth fan.. well, fanboy. And I find Iron Maiden a bit too unpleasant(ironic, right?!). Granted, their songs were the backbone of the current Power Metal genre, but I still somehow don't like them. I just dunno why.
All this maybe false... A person can also like all three, but can NOT hate all three. It's just not "Metal".

NWOBHM: Am not sure anymore. It seems, my history has gone a bit haywire.
OMG! I just realised, NWOBHM started AFTER the DECLINE of all the bands I mentioned. Am such a dumbfuck. Am so sorry...
Let me go see Sam Dunn's documentaries again! They maybe stupid, but he has done an amazing job in his first two docus.

Sam Dunn's stuff serves as an introduction but needs to be taken with a grain of salt. I remember seeing LOTS of things I would disagree with. This is actually better by a long shot.

As for NWOBHM, it's an era where us Brits would produce a lot of music in a very specific style which died out for the most part in the 80s (short of a handful keeping it alive). It's a fucking brilliant era because you can dive just about anywhere and turn up with something decent. Example:

Dark Star
Grim Reaper
Tank
Blitzkrieg

Fuck Maiden, there's still hundreds out there I haven't heard yet. Though I'll still take Maiden over any of the Big Four.

Venom all the way. :P

Venom was the first METAL songs I heard (Countess Bathory and Black Metal), the first metal t-shirt I owned, first band I headbanged to and so on.

I think Thrash metal has made a strong comeback!!! Listening to Testament's new album, it is awesome. I did not expect much from this band, but this album, "Dark Roots Of Earth" is just amazing!

@Froody: Do check out the Powerslave cover in this album. I think you'll like it if you like Thrash Metal! :)

I listened to it and I think it lost the epic Egyptian feel the original had. And it's missing that strong bass, but that's usual for thrash.
I'm not a thrash fan but I like Metallica's Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets.

They're not EPs, they're proper albums. Also, Supercharger sucks ;D

No-no, Supercharger rocks. Unless you haven't seen them live... REAL destructive power.

I didn't really like this album before hearing it live... hell.

Great albums.
Listening to Swallow the Sun's new album, "Emerald Forest And The Blackbird". It's decent.

This year has been awesome!!! Great bands releasing great albums. Exciting stuff! :)

I've heard this album a few times, haven't gotten into it yet.  'Passage' is actually my favorite album by them.
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.
