He really isn't though. Death is absurdly overrated. They wrote boring music that was never as forward thinking as people have tended to make it out to be.
Poor man's Possessed, Atheist, Coroner, etc.
I only really like their last two proggy albums, their earlier stuff I'd agree is overrated but I do love their later work. That said, every band you mentioned is also overrated. Gimme the Chasm or Edge of Sanity any day. I mean, surely Dan Swano is the REAL god of DM?
It is their proggy stuff specifically that I find them more overrated than not. Cannot stand that stuff.
The Chasm, however, are easily my favorite DM band.
Deathcult For Eternity: The Triumph is probably the best DM album that isn't Demigod's
Slumber of Sullen Eyes or At the Gates'
The Red in the Sky is Ours.
Not a fan of EoS after
Unorthodox, tbh (especially do not get the praise for the Crimson albums) and in general I am just not a fan of Swano. He is obviously a great musician, but he just either makes really cheesy stuff or really boring stuff. Can't think of anything particularly great he has been a part of - outside of maybe Diabolical Masquerade.
