Fan of USPM like Helstar's "Nosferatu," classic Jag Panzer, or Liege Lord? You'll be wanting this when it drops in a couple of days...

Someone called me ?

Hell yeah, this is much more satisfying than european flower metal. There's a fair bit of old Omen in there.

Vocals remind me of early (Dickinson-era) Maiden at times as well, which is no bad thing. Manilla Road is supposed to have another one drop soon as well, though I've not heard it so this is not an endorsement.

That's why I mentioned Omen, I always found their first three records to be fairly Maiden inspired. Attacker's vocalist is indeed quite good, hitting high notes without getting shrill.
I also heard about Manilla Road going to release new stuff. That's quite good news, though they never came close to their 80s output again . Anyway, that's how I like my traditional/power metal. Gritty, heavy, with a bit less 'anthemic' singalong choruses.

I don't mind it either way, so long as it's done well. Looks like I'll be reviewing the promo for Stratovarius though. They've gone all electro in the background, it's starting to sound like Jpop...

The new Fen album was pretty disappointing for me. Mostly because of weird production and bland riffs.

New Cult of Luna was good. Though I still like Somewhere Along the Highway more.

Been listening to a lot of Bolt Thrower recently. It's funny just how much better their last album Those Once Loyal is compared to all their other stuff, at least in my opinion.

Most I know disagree, though I'm with you. The earlier stuff had a rawer, grindier tone to it. You should try "War Master" though, I don't think there's much between the two of them.

Yeah, In Battle There Is Now Law! and Realm of Chaos are by far their best albums.

I haven't heard War Master yet, heard everything after that. I'm not into grind so I didn't listen to the first two. I'll give War Master a go.

I was told about this Finnish band called Oranssi Pazuzu yesterday. It's kind of harsh psychedelic metal with black metal vocals. I heard their album Muukalainen Puhuu and it was quite an interesting listen.

Kerettilainen Vuohi , perfect soundtrack for the burning weed scene in Samurai Champloo  ;D

That's pretty good stuff that actually holds up fairly well when compared to In the Woods. Thanks a million times.

Kosmonument is also nice.

I'll be listening to it later today. Also on my list for today is Austere - To Lay Like Old Ashes (yes I like shoegazey black metal).

I can't seem to find many interesting albums/bands these days though, and I've worked my way through my to-listen.
Does anyone have anything to recommend in any of the following: progressive, traditional doom, stoner, "post-metal"/atmospheric sludge.

Ummm... no both of those sound like death/grind to me. Particularly World Eater. This sound similar? It should, seeing as they were the first ones to combine the two genres.

Bolt Thrower doesn't sound anything like that, there is absolutely NOTHING grind about either of the Bolt Thrower songs. Don't know how anyone could think otherwise.

Sounds nothing like Carcass fwiw

I've always considered early Bolt Thrower closer to crust than to grindcore.

Seems appropriate as my latest fap, Nightfall's "Cassiopeia." Sort of a Progressive, Melodic, Symphonic, Blackened Gothic Death/Doom. I know that sounds awkward as fuck, but it's not really a hodge-podge of genres. Simply really difficult to describe using the usual genre terms.
