Page 24 of Fujimi Shobo's Dragon Magazine's April issue — which is officially on sale on February 29 but was previewed early — has announced that a new television anime project is in the works for Hajime Kanzaka's Slayers fantasy light novels.

I have to wounder who would be VAing this and what characters are going to be in this.... bring back Naga and her laugh WUAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Interesting. The old series was jolly good, even with all its weaknesses.

And I always liked the character of the cool guy Zelgadis.

love the show back in the day. It will be interesting to see h ow the update the series. It had a very 90's feel to it. With newer animation it will be interesting to see.

As long as they more closely resemble the series and not the movies they'll be great. It needs to have Zel and Amelia though. They made such a cute couple.

OK, now the bad news. SS-Eclipse and Tadashi & wyvern has already dropped the show due to the request of Funimation. The details are given on SS boards. Looks like either fansubbing of this show will go totally underground, or we are to wait to DVD releases, which can take quite awhile...

omg wtf?! This has ruined my life. I think I'm going to go kill myself blame Funi and then have the settlement money go towards legal fees so SS-Eclipse can finish it in memory of me.

From what I read it was actually the producers of the show in Japan that didnt want the groups to fan sub this. They just asked funimation to deal with the poeple in north america since they have more resources here.

So we should curse them instead? I say we form an army of anime otaku. Assuming we can get our army off their couches, we could stomp out the resistance to the Freedom of Anime (for those who don't know, an otaku is someone who is too obsessed with something to leave their home).

We should also call on the loli Armed Forces. Armed with batons, staves, and friendship they will pave the way for a better world.

And yes, it was Japanese producers who have lent their rights to enforce copyrights policy to funimation...

Yeah, it sucks for us as watchers of the show, but I can't blame JC Staff for wanting to enforce their copyright on their intellectual property, which is valid virtually everywhere regardless of licensing in any particular area. Funimation's just the messenger here, so as the saying goes, "don't shoot the messenger."

Well, this particular event is just one of the reasons to hate J.C.Staff. No matter what source they take, in the end you get at best an average show filled with elements serving no other purpose than satisfying primitive savors of as wide audience as possible. The Slayers were saved by the fact that the light novels author himself was participating and overseeing the creation process, so it's one of a few exceptions.
Naturally, once they've got a chance to finally release something AAA-grade, they're really chickened out by loosing any money they can milk off this series. As if they can lock down the net...

FUNimation also used their power of attorney powers to stop fans doing Monochrome Factor, Nabari no Ou, and Katekyo Hitman Reborn!. Those titles were not licensed at the time FUNimation commanded the fans to stop.
