So yeah, pretty good chapter....but the whole thing was really uncharacteristic of Naruto. Giving up completely and asking for help while being scared to death wouldn't seem like something he would do.

He was finally forced to acknowledge that he can't do everything. If he did good for one person it's bad for another. He's lived his whole life thinking he can do good for everyone. He's come to a cross road.

Usually he wouldn't, but having Jiraiya, Kakashi(not confirmed), the frog and Hinata(seems like she still ain't completely dead, but Naruto went rage so he probably dunno) killed off by Pein and not being able to beat him(he got captured instead...) most likely made him somewhat lose his mind.

kinda saw the 4th being his dad a mile away even having only read the past months worth of manga lol. But why wouldnt everyone else know that is beyond me

It's not a surprise that his father is the 4th, Jiraiya and Tsunade talked about it awhile ago before he died and that was the first time they put it out there. I figured that shit out page 1 chapter 1. They're the only two mother fuckers with blonde hair and blue eyes and they look exactly the same. Rules of anime apply.

The shock is that it was the 4th himself to reveal it to Naruto.

Anyways yes I could see the lameness from a mile away but the important thing is that he is back in Sage Mode which not only means he is back in control of his Chakra but should be able to perform Sage techniques.

I was unsatisfied with the explanation for why Naruto was ignorant of this fact up to that point - he figured out the business with the fox in the first chapter, after that it was kind of meaningless to hide the whole affair from him... kind of sadistic too.

It is clear though that Naruto should grow his hair out a little, it'd clearly look cool.

The author loves to drop plot bombs on his characters. I figure this one at least had the advantage of being alluded to for the reader for quite a while. I thought the Itachi revelations were worse in terms of "you can't be serious." I don't necessarily disagree with where it's put Sasuke, but you figure the entire backstory of Saskue, every single action he's done, his primary reason for living, has been a manipulation by Itachi. In fact, it was so subtle a plot that the long thought dead founder of his clan had to tell it to him for him to even know. Naruto got off light just finding out his father was the 4th.
