I know of a couple long time, adult Macross fans who prefer Ranka simply because they have different tastes. They have two distinctly different personalities that appeal to different people. That's all there is to it.

It wasn't a comment about personalities, it was about looks. All I was saying is that humans in general are attracted to those around the same age as themselves (or look the same age, I should say). I adore Ranka, but more as a little sister than as someone hot. Whereas with Sheryl... she's just hot.

Personalities are a completely different matter.

Because I hate arguing I'm going to pretend you never said this.

Maybe I'm a sucker for cliches, but I almost always like the characters that are intended to be the main character in the plot. Taiga over Minorin and Ami, Nagisa over Kyou and Tomoyo, Ranka over Sheryl, and Saber over Rin and Sakura. If at the end of the anime the main character male gets together with the main character female then it's a happy ending.

Have you all had your nutbladders removed? How could you possibly find the dog ear hair annoying? Your other points I can understand, even if I disagree with them, but how is Ranka's hair not cute? I am baffled.

At any rate, Sheryl and Ranka are at their best when they sing together. The duets are excellent. Particularly Triangler and What 'bout my Star?.

I love the music because despite the fact that it is J-Pop it has a totally unique feel to it, and you can tell effort was actually put into the songs. Not to mention the phenomenal voices, obviously.

Haha, fair enough :D Yes, that does make you a sucker for cliches, but you're not the only one. I found myself choosing the obvious girl (or pairing)... til I realized that it was an evil plan by all the creators trying to make everyone want the same ending! I no longer follow their wishes and choose my own path!
...
Man, it sounded cool while I was typing it, but that ended up corny :(

Anyways. I've decided to pull this series back of my external to watch again. All this talk has me craving great music and singing :P

If you're rewatching, you may want to consider grabbing THORA's BD rips for a slightly different, and likely better way to view it.
