What's the reason for not licensing the series (and other Macross titles) to the states? There were problems ... I'm guessing the producers are asking for a large sum of money to get it licensed ... can't blame them if so.

Legalities. Harmony Gold and the Robotech franchise stand in the way of anyone wanting to bring Macross to the US, and although it's ultimately unlikely that they could contest it should Macross be licensed, the mere possibility of a lengthy (and costly, even if you win) lawsuit in the US isn't something most companies look forward to; the profit margins on anime aren't exactly stellar to begin with. Yea I went there. Thanks and well .. Macross series shouldn't get licensed in the US. Fansubs already took care of the subbing, re-releasing and giving it to us in Blu-ray formats. ;] As long as it's popular and in demand !

There's a lot of information and very detailed about the terminology of the Macross Frontier series. There's something interesting information about the fleets, Ranka and her brother, Brera (and his unknown fleet), the virus ... Sheryl as well. Apparently, the virus communicates by reaching to the person's head. The virus allows creatures to communicate with the Varja so thats why they go up to the head. Ranka was born with it which was only preserved in her stomach-area. That's how Ranka saved Sheryl at the very end and allowing Sheryl to boost similar powers to Ranka. Sheryl and Ranka were actually communicating with the Varja everytime they sing, which at later episodes it was discovered by the government then Ranka was exposed to it -- When Ranka was released in episode 25, or saved by Alto ... she went to Sheryl to save her with Alto and afterwards they communicated with the Varja to defend Macross Frontier fleets and to attack Grace. Grace was super pissed off when Varja disrupted her work (or whatever the hell she was doing) and she wanted to control and surpass them, if you ever question Grace's actions. I still don't understand who and what Grace really is ...

The restaurant where Ranka Lee worked as a waiter is called Nyan-Nyan. Coincidentally, the restaurant where Lynn Minmay worked before she became an idol goes by the same name in the original Super Dimensional Fortress Macross.
Likewise, Ranka Lee's rise to fame as a singer parallels Lynn Minmay's similar rise, including a reference to Minmay's pop hit, "Watashi no Kare wa Pilot" or "My Boyfriend is a Pilot."
On the roof of the Macross School which all of the main characters attend, there is a preserved VF-1 Valkyrie Fighter - and as we see in Episode 9, it is not just any VF-1 - it is in fact Hikaru Ichijo's first mount (in red and black lines, which Alto Saotome now flies in with Skull 4).
The scene where the flight school students (or stunt pilots, as their role in the concerts appears to be) raise their hands to the sky in imitation of a fighter jet flying, is a clear reference to a similar scene in Macross Plus where Isamu Alva Dyson is practicing, in his head, the test maneuvers he is going to use in his first flight of the YF-19.
The setting of the pilot episode's space battle (an asteroid belt near a Gas Giant) is very similar to the classic battle at the Saturn rings from the original Super Dimensional Fortress Macross series.
Sheryl Nome's intro phrase "Listen to my song!!" or "Watashi no uta wo kike!!" in Japanese (私の唄を聴け!!) during her concerts, is very similar to Basara Nekki's (Macross 7 protagonist) catch phrase "Ore no uta wo kike!!" (俺の唄を聴け!!) before he sings.
The N.U.N.S. VF-171 is based on the U.N. Spacy's VF-17 Nightmare from Macross 7.
The scene where Alto saves Ranka for the first time is a nod to when Hikaru Ichijyo rescues Lynn Minmay in the original Macross.
While controlling his VF-25 in slave mode, Alto uses the same flying hand motion as Isamu Alva Dyson from Macross Plus.
Alto's VF-25 (in battroid mode) saluting Ranka Lee and Sheryl Nome in the final episode is a nod to a similar scene in The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love?
The relationship of Ozma Lee and Cathy Glass is strikingly similar to the doomed relationship of Roy Focker and Claudia LaSalle from the original Macross.
2nd Lt. Cathy Glass resembles officer Misa Hayase from the original Macross and occupies the same position as part of the Macross Quarter bridge crew.
The events of "Goodbye Sister" mimics many elements of episode 18 ("Pineapple Salad") of Macross. The name of the episode is similar to the American version adaptation TV episode "Farewell, Big Brother".
Characters Michael Blanc and Klan Klan share some similar characteristics to characters Maximilian Jenius and Milia Fallyna Jenius from the original Macross TV show.
The VF-25 Messiah variable fighter (in fighter mode) strongly remembles the VF-1 Valkyrie variable fighter.
Captain Jeffrey Wilder strongly resembles SDF-1 Macross Captain/Colonel Bruno J. Global from the original Macross, including the habit of smoking with a pipe as well as wearing a similar military uniform.
The scenes with Ranka Lee and Sheryl Nome singing on the bridges of both Macross Quarter and Battle Frontier during the final battle of the series is similar to the scene of Lynn Minmay singing on the bridge of the SDF-1 Macross during the final battle of Space War I in both the original Macross TV series and The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love? animated movie.
When Grace O'Connor was assimilated within the main Vajra queen's head it occurred in a similar way as it happened to Priestess Sara Nome while entering a Protoculture bio-mechanical mecha in the Macross Zero OVA series.
Grace O' Connor was destroyed the same way Boddole Zer was destroyed in The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love? animated movie.
In the very beginning of episode 25, a Vajra Battleship moves in front of Battle Frontier with its main cannon about to blast the Frontier ship while Sheryl Nome is singing on its bridge, but is rescued by the arrival of Macross Quarter blasting the Vajra ship with its Heavy Quantum Cannon. This scene is a re-creation of a moment from Space War I shown in the Macross: Do You Remember Love? movie where Vrlitwhai Kridanik rescued the SDF-1 Macross from a rogue Zentradi Standard Battleship that was about to fire its main cannon while Minmay was singing on its bridge.
The "Bird Human" Protoculture biomecha that appeared at the end of the Macross Zero OVA was very similar to the main Vajra queen from Macross Frontier. It was explained in-universe that the Protoculture came to fear, adore and defy the power of the Vajra to the extent of imitating their form while creating the "Bird Human".
Captain Ozma Lee is quite a fan of Fire Bomber music as he often plays songs in his car and at home. He even goes as far as naming battle formations after the songs such as "Planet Dance" and "Totsugeki Love Heart" which he yells out during battle.

The first time I had ever watched a Macross series was way back when Super Dimensional Fortress Macross aired on Cartoon Network/Toonami and I loved it. When I first started to use torrents I decided to look for this series but couldn't remember its name. Just happened across Macross 7 and loved it even more. Watched it twice and finally watched, and just finished, Macross Frontier. I should be sleeping right now but I couldn't stop watching Macross Frontier, something wouldn't let me. I guess you could say I now fully know the epicness that is Macross. Also commenting on Macross Frontier, two of my favorite parts that immediately come to mind is when

Just few more files to add and the torrent will go live. I'll include everything-Macross with THORA's release and .flac songs (you can ignore these files in uTorrent to not download or whatever other client you use). The major thing in the torrent will have booklets with calendars I've been talking about along with all the Doujin's I could find (for those who desire lust, of course). And 20+ other episodes that range 1-2 minutes each ... no idea what they and they're raws. How Blu-ray menus really look like, and not sure what else I'm going to dump in there but it should release this week and I'll let you guys, whomever is interested in this, know about it. I just started rewatching the series. There is something that I have wanted to ask for a long time but forgot about it. It is more a technical question. Are there karaoke effects in the encodes of THORA? For example, episode 3 timestamp 17:21-17:38. I only see the text with divided in two colors. No animation or anything. This isn't the only case, it's throughout the series except for episode one.

Each syllable changes from blue to orange after she sings it. If you don't see that happening, then your settings are wrong. If you are using VSFilter (Directvobsub) you need to disable subpicture prebuffering (it makes animated subs... not work). If you are using a very recent version of MPC-HC, though (and the only way you would be is if you downloaded the CCCP beta), then you can actually just disable VSFilter and use MPC-HC's internal subtitle renderer, which has become better and faster than VSFilter and can handle doing prebuffering and animation at the same time.

I think I'm going to watch it again around middle or end of December. I need to forget as much stuff as possible about this series. As much as I watch Toradora! I can't get bored from it, but in Macross Frontier the time where Ranka picks up (4 to 6 episodes) kinda kills the mood of when Sheryl was dominating. ;/

It's strange that Macross Zero's animation and CG quality were higher than Macross Frontier despite it being a few years older, but I suppose that can be attributed to it being an OVA.

It's how I really feel about Ranka, Mele. =] I enjoyed Macross Frontier from start to finish and I didn't miss out on anything as you claim it to be. But I've already stated:-

It kills the mood and it becomes rather a bit boring with Ranka. It doesnt' mean it's still not interesting. Infact, with Ranka being in the lead and as many people said about their favorite part in the series was the duel song they had between her and Sheryl towards Alto, that was one of my favorites. I mean, certain people like certain things. You're not them, so you can't claim things over them. In Toradora! Among Ami and Minori, Taiga excels and she is almost in every episode doing something crazy and that to me was awesome, great and I could never get bored of watching it again, and again, and again (On my fourth round with Toradora!) I'll hit up ANOTHER series, which I personally favor over Macross Frontier and Toradora! ... Fate/Stay Night, who doesn't get bored of Kotomine Kirei's 81824140 non-stop talking? A lot of people find him annoying, boring, un-interesting. He's a character. Ranka is a character. They both share the same thing to me. Not other people. Me. Yet, I still enjoyed the show and it was as interesting as much as . I hope that clears things up

Hit ep 17 and there are some unknown people who never appear again in the series. I think they appeared only once before when that Kishima guy was meeting with them. Coulnd't it be that these guys and their possible organisation could appear in the 2nd movie? Or is that just Grace in some kind of disguise?

Ah, I'm happy After watching the other series and now rewatching MF I can really appreciate MF esp. ep 17 in which they even play samples of OSTs of other Macross series (in this case Macross 7 )
