Though I must say changing the premise from Galaxy's greed to suspicion that Frontier might be evil needs getting used to it if one has watched and loved the series. It was, at times, confusing. I still don't know if I should think of the Galaxy as being good and all... especially after seeing the preview for the next movie.
Some minor events/scenes in the movie are hard to understand imo when one hasn't watched the show.
But one thing is unmistakable! Sheryl Nome is hawt! Especially in this movie! The outfits at the concerts... RAWR! I knew it was right to want an avatar with her after the series :3
I am pondering if they decided to divide the story of the series in two movies as the preview has quite familiar scenes but maybe that's just their intention, to confuse us...

CGI was nice as always, especially the final battle at the end. One could sometimes see that they reused some scenes from the series when you have watched the 1080p version but that is acceptable as they aren't the majority of scenes in the movie. Actually there's a lot of new material in there.

The /m/ subs are decent, barely imo. But I'm generally over critical... The most prominent mistake is the inability to distinguish between it's and its. Furthermore that possessive pronoun is wrong anyway. Ships are female so it had to be her. Other mistakes were wrong prepositions used with certain verbs that are to be used with prepositions to convey the intended meaning. To conclude: I keep waiting for other groups to sub this so that I can rewatch it :3

I'm pretty sure they will loosely follow the plot of the series. Alto still needs to fly through a real sky. I guess Grace and co will still be the antagonists and not the Vajra.

Oh, yeah. I forgot. It is now pretty confirmed that Sheryl is the granddaughter of Mao Nome.

Just finished the first movie of Gurren Lagann ... so now I'm watching Macross Frontier ~ The False Diva. I'm like, 1 minute, ... one minute into the movie and ... omg ... it brings back so many memories! I LOVE the songs! <3333

I was surprised by how good the movie was. It reached the same point in the story using just a few key scenes from the series. That there were so many new songs was even more of a surprise for me. It wasn't all good, but probably the best anime movie released that year.

Sad it has to be split in two due to how long it would be otherwise.

I think it will closely follow the series, but with different scenes. As the first one did.

I hope they change it up a bit more. ^^

Yup. It's gonna continue from where they left off in the first movie, The False Diva. If you go towards the end of the movie, they put out new preview scenes which ultimately is the upcoming movie in Feb of 2011.

Is there an English Dub of this anime?

A guy on another forum wants to know. He does not like subtitles.

When I watched this a few years ago I searched around for a dub as well. Never found one but still wanted to watch the series. Macross Froniter was the first series I watched in subs and now I rarely watch dubs...

I doubt anything has changed since then, so good luck on finding one!

I did find an ancient thread on a forum at Macrossworld I think it was, where a guy had started to do an English Dub of the series, but he shut the project down because people involved in the project were posting stuff to youtube when he specifically asked them not release any stuff before the project was complete.

That is basically the ONLY thing I have seen about an English Dub for Macross Frontier.

Nice new story in those two movies. I'm positively surprised to see a pretty good story done, that is not the standard anymore nowadays.
I don't really know what to say about the second movie. It was just great and I loved it.
I wonder what is now canon in case new Macross series are to be made for other birthdays of the franchise.

To all Macross fans, did you also recognize the cameo during the final battle or rather did I recognize him correctly?

Okay ... Decided to marathon the first movie, then finally watched the second movie. Still love the first movie and the second movie was really good, but not as good as the first movie or the whole second phase of the TV series. I personally don't like how they just "sealed" everything at the end and gave you the option to imagine how things will unfold. Needs an OVA or show what the hell happened in the next Macross generation.

But hey, I wasn't wrong about Sheryl and Alto.

The price is about right. Man I can't order this from Amazon JP. It's also not on CD Japan. Why won't they ship this to the US? I'm just disappointed. I don't ever want to order anything from Play Asia, they're sick expensive.
