No you don't. It can definitely be watched as a stand-alone show.

Waited a very long time for Blu-ray, pushed it back after I got it, now I am watching it. The graphics have completely dropped my jaws. Superb animation! Freaking awesome!
I'm new to Macross series. Is this a related to any of the other Macross stuff out there? I only seen Macross Zero (that one was also good!).

--- Quote from: newy on August 01, 2009, 12:00:20 PM ---I have watched all series recently :) And no, it's not necessary. In Macross F there are scenes that pay a hommage to older series like the original 36 ep series 'SDF Macross' and the movie 'Do you remember love?' Some characters resemble ones in the original series. As omegadragon already said 'Do you remember love', 'SDF Macross' and 'Macross Zero' could be watched but aren't a must-see.
In case you want to watch the above mentioned series I recommend to read the Wikipedia-articles about Macross (or just Macross F) so that you can fully grasp the parallels^^
A great universe. Yack! Deculture! :P

Here is the thread
There are very few to no relations to other series. It's more of a stand alone.
Tatsu, do you think you could make me a Macross F banner after you've watched it? :)

Quality pictures make me want to play around with them. What character you looking for, give me their first and last name. It'll also help me if you can give me a link from:-
http://moe.imouto.org/post/show/70914/kanojo-tachi_no_ryuugi-miyama-zero-trap
Type and search and find that character, and then let me choose the pictures. ;]

Ranka Lee is where it's at... I didn't particularly like her in the show all that much, but her singing voice is >>> Sheryl's ... (Megumi Nakajima > May'n) BUT don't get me wrong. May'n is amazing too. Proof:
