They might have wanted to do away with having a bad guy wear a turban because of the shitstorm it might cause as far as press goes :P

I aggree that it is stupid, and that it really shouldn't matter, but I believe the people who made the movie would rather just circumvent dealing with people like that in the first place rather than have to listen to their consistent whining.

:D Awesome I very much enjoy that you pointed that out to me :D

I think the rubber-chest plate has been done too many times though already. It's sort of cliche. Takes me back to Batman Forever... there were problems with that movie.

Hahaha, that pic - it looks like they browsed some forums.

Ok - green piccolo, I give them a +1.

But the Goku is suck.   Ugh.  That guy sucks.   He looks like an asshole.   The kind of person you just feel the need to wound/injure/hit/bludgeon/impale/kill it with fire.

Nothing.

Usually I never pre-judge a movie but this one seems to merrit a camparison critique.
After watching the trailer it seems to be a cross between Bullet proof monk, mortal kombat, double dragon and streetfighter live action movies but with better digital effects. Lead actor doesn't really sell the wire work. At this point without seeing entire movie I would rather a Kung-fu Hustle take on Dragon Ball (hilarious movie I thought).

Although I do think that James (spike) marsters can sell the picollo if he doesn't have campy dialogue written for him. No real other actor critics yet.

Disclaimer:
the opinion stated above is solely based on reviewing the trailer.

Piccolo seems pretty well done. Except for his boots. If it wasn't for the 1 inch thick grip... I'd say that it would have looked almost perfect. So... Piccolo wears combat boots now?
This is your home now. So take advantage of everything here, except me.

I, Robot wasn't that bad.

But this movie... it looks like it's going to join the likes of "AWESOME MOVIES" such as kungpow...

How dare you even put this skidmark of a movie on par with Kung Pow. Kung Pow was pure and utter genius from beginning to end. Kung Pow never took itself seriously from the start, it was literally rofl funny. I don't think they should ever have tried to make Dragonball into a movie. Some things just do not translate well from cartoon to live action.
Show me your form, truth, and regret. I shall cleanse you from this world!

True the closest they should have come was MAYBE a Final fantasy style CG animated movie. So the the things that made Dragonball great could be preserved. Like the chi fireball attacks, power ups, speed and high level martial arts. These elements are animated and unrealistic and therein lies the charm, and that's why they should stay that way. Attaching a human face that is soo not a vision I ever had of Goku takes away from that. Bulma as a white female fine, she's doable...portraying the character I mean. But Goku? mmmm naw. Just wish when hollywood decides to take on a classic they would not be so pompous and consult a true fan base at least to a point. Something to the tune of 300 or Sincity in the way that the translation to screen was almost direct.

Nodame Cantabile translated perfectly into a live action show/flick in my opinion. But that is pretty rare.

If I recall correctly, they did make a couple very low budget dragonball live action flicks in Japan in the 90's.

Saw a pic of that DB movie somewhere I am in the process of finding it.

Nodame is on my Freeleech list, but the genre is different and I am not against translation into live action. I just believe some things shouldn't be done unless they can be done well. As stated with 300 and Sincity which are translated from comic books. I even go so far as to say X-men at least wolverine anyway. I never thought in a hundred years they could find anyone to play him right but jackman pulls it off. maybe clint eastwood could of if he was younger and shorter.

I am reserving a full fledged critique until I see it. But in the interim I only have the trailer to go on which "so far" leaves me believing it shouldn't have been done.

btw your avatar is awesome. I find myself staring at it till I get dizzy.

Yeah, I agree. It's hard to tell sometimes. Like I would have normally said a live action nodame live action show would have sucked, but it was awesome. And when I was like 15 in the mid 90's, I always wanted a live action dragonball. Guess my tastes have changed.

I've been getting a lot of people asking me where it's from. So rather then post a new topic about it to stop people from PM'img me, :P , I'll post a link here. It's from a Japanese Music video. And the song is very catchy after a couple listens. Oh, and the girl is hot.

Same here, I thought so too only because I would have played picollo better than anyone.( bald so couldn't be Goku) I think when we were younger seeing a live person portray our action heroes made their powers and physique seem so much more attainable a sort of mental role play. So the level of campyness was more acceptable.

Now I'm more into a well done finished product with high entertainment value...maybe because I lost my superhero physique at 22. :'(

My tastes really have only changed due to some of the hollywood butchery in the past however there are gems but like any "well cut" (movie pun intended) they are currently rare. I may very well be surprised in the future as it seems hollywood is running out of ideas with all the current remakes and treading where they are not ready to go hopefully they will step up their game to get them done right and not just to meet blockbuster summer seasons. we'll see.

Had to watch the vid twice. first time I was too concentrated on finding your avatar segment. Song is quite catchy and KK does make it easy to watch more than twice.
Thanks for the link, I was very curious as well.
