Minami-ke Okawari

xShadow:
I didn't feel like making a new thread, and this one's not that old anyway...

I think I might go ahead and get Tweakanime's releases. Overall, they don't seem to be too bad of a subbing group, and their anidb rating's pretty decent, considering how harsh people are on groups these days (take out those 4 scores below a 7 from this). I would wait for Ayako, but they've been on episode 4 for... pretty long...

Has anyone else watched the Tweakanime release?

This could be called grave digging, but I won't create a new thread for this:

I finished watching Minami-ke yesterday and being the impatient faggot I am, I downloaded all of Ayako's release (up to ep. 10) when I got to the 4th ep of the first season. I was thinking about waiting for them to complete subbing the series to start watching it, but I saw that TA's rating is on par with Ayako and they are one episode away from finishing the sub. So I'm direct-downloading the first TA h264 ep from their site to compare to Ayako's h264 release (pretty fast download at 280KB/s).

I'll post the results when I'm done, hopefully TA is as good or even better than Ayako, however, I really Ayako's intros for the first series, so I'm a bit sceptical about this.

Ugh, the site went down while I was posting this:

EDIT: I just finished Ayako's, the colours are warmer than TA's and the video quality is superior, despite the smaller file size. As for the translations, both seem identical, but TA's is a bit more conservative about a few things, using some Japanese words instead of translating them into "spring" or "spring resort" like Ayako's translation, I can't comment on the actual quality since I know nothing of Japanese, but both seemed to flow well enough and both mean the same things... Also, Ayako used some on-screen translations (I'm not sure what translations of some Japanese words written on the screen are called...) while TA didn't use any that I could see. The karaoke is similar in both, but I don't care all that much about it, so meh.

Bottom line: Both are good subs, but Ayako uses less HDD space and has a better video quality. Yet TweakAnime is about to release the last episode, while Ayako might take over a month to get the last three eps out.

Screencaps for those who want to compare (I couldn't find any photo hosting sites that would take a 4MB image, so I just split into 4 comparison shots):

psyren:
Ayako have used a filter to boost the colours. They overdid it. The left screencaps are much truer to the original source than Ayako's saturated version.

The red eyes do give Haruka a nice "Demonic Possession" look.

I enjoyed some of the openings for Minami ke.  A few of them were really funny.

The comments Lime added to the semi ecchi shots of Nobue, in the middle of each episode of Strawberry Marshmallow, really annoyed me.  They took a show I wouldn't mind watching with friends/family/girls and added unnecessary, highly offensive jokes about lolicon.  It wasn't a show that sexualized the little girls, so why screw with it in the translation?  Or at least don't encode it into the video, and leave it out of at least one of the subtitle streams.
