Reviving the thread from the dead beacuse I know how to use the search function.  Go me º¿º

So, I just painfully finished this series.  And by that I mean I was putting it off and putting it off till I finally said, I should finish this if nothing more then to just say I did watch it.  So these are my thoughts hidden by spoilers, one to save space, and two for the obvious reasons...

(click to show/hide)There seems to be nothing truly special about this series.  And I don't think I would recommend this to anybody who wants anything in-depth.  I mean come on.  The first 20 or so episodes seemed to have no bearing on the last 30.  Yeah they introduced all the characters and you got to know them pretty well, but they were all cardboard cutouts.  And if the true goal was to collect souls, then why in the hell do you divert the story line away to something totally unrelated.

* First, (click to show/hide)the evil in the world is suppose to be demon souls and witches.  Ok, I can handle that.  Next we are introduced to black blood, which appearently is what happens to an individual who eats pure souls and not evil ones, or something along those lines.  Anyways appearently it is bad, ok a stretch but this is anime, i understand how it goes.  And then the best they can come up with is madness/insanity/whatever it was subbed as by the particular group who subbed it.  I find this to be a very thin plot line.  Sort of like they were pulling at strings and they never really wanted to define the problem.
* Second, (click to show/hide)I don't know how many people got stabbed through the heart but did not die.  Come to think of it, nobody in the whole series dies except for witches.  Who don't die, they just sort of fade away.  And for that much, whatever happened to Medusa's Soul?  Can we say multiple plot holes?
* Third, (click to show/hide)Ok you just got beat up by someone, and amazingly 20 min later you are healed, to full health.  It is like Link Picking up a Heart in Zelda, without I don't know let's say a heart or a potion to heal you.  Reminds me of Tom and Jerry or Roadrunner American cartoons. I'm sorry if you are cut through the gut, 2 episodes later, which take place the same day, you can't be running around like an idiot Black Star.  And if someone impales a 6 inch hole through your chest, laying on the ground for 1/2 an episode bleeding does not make it better.  No amount of tap will heal you.  But again this is Anime this is to be expected.
* Fourth, (click to show/hide)why does Maki become a Badass at the end, yet you don't tell us why or how?  She just amazingly can matriculate scythes out of her body.  What allows her to do this?  And how in the sudden does she become lightening fast with her attacks?  I know she was knocked out and apparently it was in her genes, but you don't explain why, but you tell us her mom is apparently very powerful(but yet we never meet her or are explained why she is so powerful), and we all know her dad's pretty kick ass.  I'm guessing that's just another one of those Plot holes in this series.
I'm sure there are other plot holes out there, and other things that got on my nerves but seeing as I divided this series into 2 parts, watched the first 26 episodes then 2 months later watched the last 25, I’m probably forgetting some.

On a positive note, the characters are likeable, the art is very well done including the actions scenes, the Op and Ed are all very good especially the 3rd ending, the voice actors were all good, and it was very light hearted and easy to watch.  And yes we all know everybody hates Excalibur, including me.  Soul was definitely my favorite out of the ragtag team, and as well as he should.  He seemed like to be the only one with his head on straight 1/2 the time where the rest, outside of Maki, were off in left field digging holes with their baseball mitt.
In Conclusion it is worth a watch, but you aren't missing anything if you skip it in my opinion.  A good waste of time but that's about it.

I'm sorry morrefule....but you missed almost the whole point on..well everything. Allow me to explain

First (click to show/hide)Black blood is NOT what happens to someone who eats pure souls. Not even close. Black blood was artificially created by Medusa. In the whole world, there are only three persons with black blood: Crona, who was infused with it by Medusa, Maka, who was contaminated by Ragnarok, and Ashura, who had it implanted in him by Medusa. Anyone else could eat pure souls for yours, and still not obtain black blood. The enemy was VERY well defined, as something that exists in all humas: insanity. Kishin would bring out this insanity out of anyone,as a means of canceling out fear. Makes perfect sense, actually
Second (click to show/hide)People don't die when stabbed through the chest because well...it's anime. And shounen anime to boot. Witches DO die, and not fade away. Except Medusa, who cheated by "ejecting" her sould before she was killed. She also said she didn't think it would actually work, and said that there's no way it would work again. It's a stretch, but it's not a plot hole
Third (click to show/hide)Again...it's shounen. Renji from Beach was almost cut in half....he was fine. Ichigo got a whole through his chest. He's also fine. Vita from MSLNS walked around with a HUGE hole for 4 episodes...and still didn't die. She DID bleed a lot
Forth (click to show/hide)Not a plot hole, as it comes from the manga. It wasn't all that well explained though. Maka is half-weapon, but she chose to live as a maister, just like her mother. When she went all badass, she tapped into two power sources: her own weapon genes, and part of the black blood power (since it canceled out her fear and consciousness). As soon as her consciousness returned...she could not use those powers again. (click to show/hide)
Fifth (bonus) (click to show/hide)Most people didn't get why Ashura was so "easily" defeated. It's actually quite simple if you look at what happened when Maka power up. Ashura got his ass kicked by Maka. Ashura was a coward, and the only way that he could fight his fear was by knowing everything. When he coudn't understand why Maka powered up, he ould not focus on the battle, and was cut and hit every time. When he understood why Maka was so strong, he went back to being Kishin, and defeated Maka with ease. Again, when Maka wound not surrender, and kept saying she would win, Ashura turned back into a coward, because he was afraid of what she could do. Not because she actually COULD do that, but because he THOUGH she could. Think of him like a CPU with no multi-tasking. Every time he did not understand something, he turned into a coward and couldn't fight. This is made even more clear at the very end. When Maka told Ashura why she beat him, his voice and attitude went back to those of Kishin, before he died. (click to show/hide)
That should cover it.

I liked the way you summed everything up, but overall the ending was "Weak Sauce".

(click to show/hide)I would have preferred freckin Excalibur over maka beating Ashura or a typical shounen ending where everyone gets there strength back and mysteriously owns him >_>

No argument there. I was just pointing out that it DOES make sense. That does not change the fact that it IS lame. Also, Kid and BlackStar got their asses handed to them, and could hardly move....until Ashira was defeted. Then they were fine. It was like "Oh, Maka won...we can get up now" or "I knew that if we fake defeat she will defeat him for us".

BTW, I would have LOVED a proper battle with Excalibur. He kicks major ass when he's serious. He's like Xellos from Slayers: goofy, crazy and does his best to annoy you...but if he's ever serious, you are fucked.

AceD:
the ending was shit, thats the only word worth using...
