^_^ I made myself a matching sig, finally. It looks a bit weird with the anime-planet stuff on it, forgot about that black-ish bar on the bottom...
(click to show/hide)
^ Without black bar and stuff

v With black bar and stuff and godawful jpeg compression artifacts

Wow pretty, you can put a transparent border at the button so when you attach it to the anime planet sig, the black border doesn't interfere with the sig.

edit:

Anime planet doesn't have .png? The image suffers too much from the .jpeg compression i see.

Thanks :D

I tried uploading it as a 256color paletted .png w/ dithering (which looked pretty nice), but it got converted to .jpeg, so I guess they don't like .png :(

@Kyrdua: Thanks :D she's the girl from Hanachirasu, the one that's not the main character's employer/lover nor is she the girl from the beginning. The blacksmith girl. I forgot her name. :D

@jpeg vs png, yeah, I started to hate using jpeg's, not to mention jpegs lose transparency, which png's handle excellently.

@Kyrdua
I know, but if it was animated, if would not be a sig anymore :)
it would be over 400kb at least :D

jpg sucks for sigs, nuff said.
Havoc: (This is more for transparent .png images that exceed 100kb, but works if you're picky about quality and want to retain as much without cutting down)

^Sets amount, generally 20-40 levels

^Since no alpha channels are needed, uncheck transparency to free up more space while still retaining png quality

=~

on animated, geez. ya seen southrop's sig? you can make a longer animation than that if you use transparency.

also, remember this?
http://i55.tinypic.com/2ujgvwj.jpg

playing with it's dimensions would make if fit the 100 kb limit.

Ok thats it.

This thread has been dead for at times 5 months? Because the requesters didn't even know what they wanted, the set they wanted was either, wrong / not available / out of reach.

The makers here mostly make sigs for themselves because they know themselves best.
I've tried requesting for sets before and it was terrible, i am a very picky person, and the style varies on the artist making it, if the request the artist made was off we'd be there remolding it until i forfeited.

I just happened to run into failboat's showcase by luck, and knew he could create the ultimate set.

Now if artists are not encouraged to post their showcases, be it self made images or Ava Sig sets how are the requesters supposed know who to pick for a request? How are they supposed to know what effects they like, especially those who have said images at hand?

I completely agree with this. Most people come and say "I want a sig, do as you see fit". So what I propose is that requesters fill out this form as DETAILED as possible:

Size: (The size you want in pixels, the sig to be)
Picture/Render: (Link the render/stock you want to be used in your sig here)
Style: (Abstract,grunge,photomanip,etc.)
Text: (What text you want in your sig)
Colors: (The colors you'd like in the sig)
Other: (Any additional info you'd like in the sig)

This makes the life of any graphics artist 100000% easier. I used to make sigs for people and it bothered me to hell and back if this would please the receiver or not. GFX artists DO NOT like to worry about that. So to everyone here, be considerate and fill out this form if you're requesting for a sig or avatar.

I would like to see this edited in the first post so no new idiots come here with their needs and can't specify what they exactly want.

Added 2 more entries.

Size: (The size you want in pixels, the sig to be)
Picture/Render: (Link the render/stock you want to be used in your sig here)
Style: (Abstract,grunge,photomanip,etc.)
Effect: (Glow, spark, strokes, etc.)   <------------
Text: (What text you want in your sig)
Colors: (The colors you'd like in the sig)
Border: (If you want borders around the sig) <-------------
Other: (Any additional info you'd like in the sig)

yup effects can be really nice sometimes, and when there are upcoming holidays like X-Mass or new years or Halloween or easter egg (oooh I just popped a nice idea for a Ika Easter eggs :D) or other important occasions, some effects could be really nice, borders are, if someone does want them, I personally don't need em, but that idea is also nice, so Kudos for those additions :)

of curse Kudos for all the ideas :)

I say anything because I literally mean anything. I am not picky about size, style or anything like that, I have too many favourite characters to pick one that I like so. If I say ecchi I usually get something I enjoy so. If its made for me and doesn't have any errors (badly cut images, blocking etc) then I will use it. That is if I request it though. Usually I just get around to making it myself. There is nothing really wrong with the system now its just that people are getting too picky about what they want. Be picky if you can make it yourself otherwise appreciate what you are given and ask for a few minor changes.

So its December and I had some time... time to make my holidays set. Unfortunately no Santa costumes here though. Only tits and swords. Though I suppose it is what I want for Christmas in one respect. :3

Personally I am not really a Juubei fan. I like her master form but other than that she urks me. However, she is generally cute and at the absence of some great images/scenes of the others, I have this for now. Might make something with one of my favourites later.

This doesn't really beat Tatsu's in awesome but I have his saved for later use if I wish for another mind break set. ^_^

what did you use to capture that? i made an animated sig of my own sans an avatar for use outside bakabt and i used CCCP's FFDshow.

yours look really smooth, so i was wondering how you made it that way.

I used the long way but that is only cause I cbfed learning/downloading all the other things.

Open in MPC. Find the start. Move 2-3 frames. Screenshot. Repeat. Once you have all of them just open them all in Photoshop and align them on the single canvas with first as top layer. Crop the canvas to size. Add in a layer overtop for border and code then open animation window.

First frame. Set to 0.1 delay. New frame. Retains attributes of the previous frame so just turn off the top most layer to reveal next frame. Then just repeat: new frame, turn off top layer, new frame, turn off top layer. Then I just play with timing in certain places that I want to stop. The final frame stops for 0.2 seconds instead of 0.1. Was considering a long pause though like 2-5 seconds or so.

Its longer but I find a lot more freedom to edit to how I want in Photoshop so. I am still newb at video gifs though and the pros could probably teach me a few shortcuts to my method but meh. Its a learning curve.

I noticed my cropping of Juubei sucked for sig. I went too far back when I was undoing something I tried. Updated one. Better but could be even more so I think.

^ jesus christ, that's long!

here's how i captured mine:(prerequisite: ffdshow MUST be the decoder for the video, if you're using coravc and your video is in h264 it won't work)

1. open video, the skip to a few seconds before the desired scene and pause.
2. double click the ffdshow video(red one) icon in systray.
3. find the "grab" checkbox on the left.
4. tick the "every frame" radio button, set "grab every __ frame"  to 2 or 5, actually, just experiment, i find 3 to be the best.
5. set path, it must be preexisting, that is, you made the folder in windows explorer beforehand.
6. image format to png, for obvious reasons.
7. go back to mpc and play.

Your way isn't actually isn't that bad... with some tweaking.

Photoshop has the ability to load images into stacks, so you can take all the screenshots you captured and go to File > Scripts > Load Files into Stack...

This will put onto photoshop all the screenshots you've taken onto their own layer.

Now, your method's advantage is the "grab every x frame" feature - since shows are in ~23fps, loading from a video -> animation will capture static images about every 2-3 frames.

However, it's arguable that that advantage is outweighed when one has to make the animation themselves frame by frame (since my technique makes it automatically) - pretty even situation I'd say, but I'd rather delete stuff than create frames :P But I'd say video wins since loading the images into their own layer takes a while, as photoshop does it through a macro than dedicated code to pull the pictures in the video method.

Anyways, enough of me and my boring lectures~

OMG! This is awesome, you do not know how much this helps me. I'm like opening multiple images of the same type yet they get thrown into different tabs. I'm there now having to duplicate them to the main tab bleeding my eyes out.

No problem~

It never fails to surprise me though, how quite a bit of photoshoppers don't know/research these time-saving techniques... I mean, the time saved on them really adds up and cuts down quite a bit from one's workflow.

You can go and post this at photoshop tech thread http://forums.bakabt.me/index.php?topic=27510.0 would be much appreciated.

I know about that stacks part, but what i DID NOT know was that psp convert thingy. I bow to your mastery on giffing. also, when it comes to simply converting videos into gif, the method i used's the way to go(unless there's a video converter that converts to gif) + irfanview. since once you captured the frames in png's, you can batch convert them to individual gifs and send them to unfreez. and voila, you've got an animated gif.

I don't mind my way. I knew Photoshop had that stacking feature I just didn't know where it was or how it was named and it wasn't of great enough need for me to research where it was. Thank you muchly.

I will still stick to my way I think though. Personal prefence rather than anything. It is a good tutorial though.
