What's up with the dots? nothing pretty about those in my boat. i like bokeh more, but that's mainly because they're more visible.

How do people get dots like that. Photoshop's scatter effect doesn't spread them as much as that or as nice, do you just randomly click 1px dots? I like the way it's bordered, the outside glow.

it looks to me as a specific glow effect with some different pattern, really can't say anything else, I don't use too many additional custom brushes myself.

so i misunderstood, i blame my bad eyes as i didn't really see the "fire effect" before you clarified it, i thought you were referring to the bokeh.

EDIT: i've seen the tut now and the fire effect was just the yellow retard girl layer faded/smudged. try it out yourself.

EDIT: i just remembered that's actually what i did here

it's not visible though, since i changed the blending mode.

Smudge work is one of my favorite effects \o/

The blending mode is probably overlay or screen, JSYK, Tiffy. The brush seems like a 60-80% smudge strength texture brush from Photoshop's default brushes, with size, rotation & axis rotation, and scatter applied to it V:

Haha, I guess so. Like I said, smudging is one of my favorite techniques - it's just so versatile and useful, and works great in any type of blending.

In fact, my first Touhou sig was based around it (the background except for the black -> dark ultramarine gradient is all from a modified smudge brush):

oh, mind if i ask the brush settings you're using? my smudges suck donkey balls with whatever settings i use, so i most often just opt to gaussian blur.

I made a banner with it.

There's a banner of the month contest on AnimeRender every month, and this month's one is heterochromia, so of course... the first thing I thought of was failboat's retard girl goes bokeh... rofl

I figure, if any heterochromia girl wins, it should definitely be that one! lol... I've made two so far, but I actually like my remake of failboat's retarded bokeh girl better than the other I used a freakishly creepy render for...

What I'd wanted to do on the creepy girl one was have like, that digital deletion-ish effect like you see on her face joining her and on her collar, but at the edges of her hair so it'd flow more naturally. But, i couldn't really reproduce those results short of doing it manually. So, I ended up just doing a tile filter, manually deleting squares to look somewhat similar to that and then added an abstract background, tiled it, and overlayed a gradient.

The retard girl one, I dunno, I like it. I did change her color balance to a bit more cyan. It may need something else though... What do you guys think?

edit: Oh, something else you guys might find neat... My render logo I made for there. I kinda like it...
