My custom PC I built sometime in 2004.

CPU: Athlon64 3200+
Mobo: Asus A8V Deluxe with practically everything integrated busted while still being able to boot (well, eventually... usually after a few hours of trying - after which I never turn my PC off until it crashes again or such)
Case: Antec Sonata Piano Black
PSU: Nexus NX4090 400W (2 PSUs have blown up so far, hoping this one lasts until I can build my next setup)
GPU: Gainward GeForce 6800 GT Ultra/2400 Golden Sample Goes Like Hell 256MB (I just LOVE that name)
RAM: 2GB DDR400 (4x512MB, Dual Channel)
HDD: 2x 250GB, 4x 300GB, 2x 500GB, 2,7TB total
Monitor: BenQ G2400W 24" black
DVD: Lite-On SOHW-1633S that won't read or write CDs anymore, only DVDs.
Keyboard: Microsoft Wireless Desktop Elite Keyboard
Mouse: Microsoft/Razer Habu (R.I.P. Copperhead)
Headphones: Sennheiser HD 570
Speakers: 2x Behringer Truth 2031A

My setup is getting pretty old already but since I haven't played much after quiting WoW ages ago the only real problems are the failing mobo, integrated sound which blows and the fact I can almost watch 1080p video without stuttering. Currently trying to save for a new mobo/CPU/RAM/GPU/PSU/case... and more hard drives... and a GOOD sound card... and a subwoofer...  and a wired keyboard, maybe G15... and eventually a bluray drive... *sigh*

Good setup, should last me for the next 5 years atleast.  Or until I get bored and build something new.
Sounds quite optimistic. 5 years is freaking forever in IT. My last PC was high-end in 1998 and a piece of junk in 2004 and I had replaced everything except the mobo so it had rougly 4x the original computing power and RAM and the GPU was infinitely faster than the original :P. My current setup was also high mid-end when I got it and now it's just meh.
Nope, there's still nothing here.

Mobo: EVGA 680i SLI
GPU: EVGA 8600 GTS
RAM: 2 GB Patriot 800 MHz 4-4-4-12 timings
Optical Drive 1: Pioneer 112D
Optical Drive 2: Samsung SH-203B
HDD 1: Seagate 320GB 16 MB cache
HDD 2: WD 500 GB 16 MB cache
Monitor: Westinghouse L2410NM 24" MVA panel for like $370 a month or two ago.
Speakers: Some cheap altec lansing 2.0 things that came with a dell computer my parents bought back in 2003.
Webcam: Logitech Communicate STX
Mouse/Keyboard: some cheap microsoft crap.

well I generally use a computer until my HD or motherboard burns out.  I was using a 1.7Ghz Pentium with 512Mb memory until about 2 months ago lol

Then the head on the HD died and I said "Ok! Time for a new machine!"  Now my old computer is a family word doc/web machine.

Nah, 5 years is your system is near extinct in the market - good luck finding parts.  I've got a pretty decent Athlon XP 3000+ system:

XP3K+
2GB
GeForce 6800
A78NE-Deluxe
250gb

Really, that machine there is great for most of the apps I run, and even quite a few modern games, with the exception of some of the absolute latest releases with heavy-duty graphics (Crysis, for example - it can run it, but it runs like shit.)

---

but ... the MB is sorta crapped, and -well- replacement parts are harder to find for it.  It's borderline on, wtf, if I want to spend that much to grab parts for this POS - why the hell am I maintaining it?   I'll just buy a new PC (CPU/MB/RAM - that's a "new PC" to me.  ;)  I cannibalize until parts turn to dust/die.)

( NOTE: Yes, the parts are old, yes you can probably get them cheap - BUT - for me, ebay/used is not an option.  My experience on used/ebay - is the parts you get are 70-80% to their MTBF, unless, the thing's like a couple months out of release.  Other stuff - was abused heavily by the previous owner, cleaned, and sold as "barely used".  I don't buy ANY pc parts, mission-critical hardware, or business gear used anymore.  I've had too much problems. )

T_T  dilemmas ... I want to try a core 2 so bad, but the last time I jumped ship on AMD (P4) ... Intel took a huge 2.4ghz shit in my nice aluminum case ... and I was stuck with it for too long.  I guess I'll wait until AMD's next offering to see if it's worth testing the Intel water again.

Some really nice systems out there. mine seems pretty standard compared to evryone here

Case: Antec P182
PSU: Some CoolerMaster crap (Does a decent job and its quite)
CPU: Intel Core Duo E6850 @ 3GHz
Mobo: Gigabyte P35-DS3P
GPU: Leadtek 8800 GT 512
RAM: 2 GB 1066 Mhz
Optical Drive: Pioneer 112D
HDD: 4x 500Gb western Digital (Total of 2Tb)
Monitor: 22” 5ms DVI WS Viewsonic VA2226W
Speakers: Logitech Z4
Mouse/Keyboard: Some random wireless Logitech set.
OS: Vista Ultimate (I don't see much difference appart from the ecryption stuff that i sometimes use)

Only thing good about my system is that it runs quite and i mean really QUITE, theres pratically no sound when its on (except when the DVD spins).
Should last me for a bit, but i think i need more HD room already, probably get 2 more 1Tb HDD soon, see what happens

ah a quiet computer eh?  I remember when my computer was quiet.  Before I installed the two case fans pushing 50-70CFM

Totally unnecessary? Yes.  Does it keep my computer cool? Also yes.

I suggest you go out and buy a spare right now.   If you've got my luck, lol!

Just about a month ago, I had the 120mm inside a system's PSU die.   Worst part about it - it was a $100.00 PSU... :(

I didn't want to junk it, and, I couldn't wait for warranty service -so- I cracked it open and frankensteined a standard molex connector ( 5 1/4 floppy power connector )120mm fan into a PSU fan ( took off the connector, reconnected it to the new fan. ) - at first, it wouldn't turn on (DOH!  reversed polarity on the plug!  oops XD ) - but it worked like a charm afterward.

Say, you don't happen to have forced air heat/cool in your house, do you?   That kind of h/c system usually has particulate filtration built right in.

B/C dusty homes = dead fans & clogged PSU.   This place I'm in is OLDCORE (built 1890) - so we have dust galore - and - I need to clean out systems *all the time*.

You'll hear the dying bearing much earlier ;)

In the aforementioned PSU's case - it sounded like a dying animal.  :D

Nothing.

Do you buy cheap cases that are so ugly you need to scrap em becouse they look so ugly that you can only stand it... well not stand a second to look at?

I only change it when I get a new mobo..I don't like to keep the same look for long..I normally spend $150 to $250 on a case

Just for the novelty factor:

Athlon XP-M 2500+ @ 12.5 x 200
volt modded X800XL AGP @ X850XT speeds
basic mushkin DDR 400 512mb x 2 @ CAS 2

I was in the process of a rebuild using a Athlon 64 X2 when my former cotenant burned the house down, destroying my drives, the new board and the new CPU.  The old board and video card were okay, but I haven't had the chance to build a new system.

Right now I use a pretty decent laptop with no gaming capabilities whatsoever.

My audio system is far more impressive:
TDA1543 based non oversampling dac fed by a usb to I2S interface, technically it's still a sound card, technically.
Ray Samuels Audio HR-2 headphone amp
Sennheiser HD-600 and heavily modified Grado SR-325 headphones.  The Grado headphones have maple enclosures similar to the
RS series, along with solid silver wiring.
