do we have an irc chat? ... are we going to have a website? and would love to have Vent too, i believe we can have up to 15 users to chat-live for free. either way, IRC would be the first step so we can communicate with each other. I want to meet the people in there.

reading your PM Hanako and working on it.

edit -- don't want to double post, did we decide on a name yet? Since we're going to finish dropped projects / unfinished works by other fansubbers, we may need a name that reflects to what we do, a cool name. Pickerz, Project Pickerz, ... okay it sounds bad and what not, don't kill me. >_>;; ... Let's get a group name, some votes would be nice and then get an IRC-chat up ASAP.

BTS - BoxTorrents Subbers
RA - Rejects Anonymous :P
EFS - Epic Fail Subbers (or just Epic Fail will do)

I'd vote for BFG, or RA if Box association is not allowed.

I'll work on building a group roster now and contact anyone that showed an interest.  There are a lot posts so if I miss you(i.e. you don't hear from me in the next few hours) shoot me a PM and I'll add you.

I can make a WordPress or B2Evolution blogs but they'll be off of my website. Or if we're going to get our own website, which I prefer. WordPress is famous now-a-days.

edit -- voting for Boxtorrents Fansub Groups, if denied then I'll go with RA.

Need some people to get active in this thread.

Box approved use of name in group title.  Just Box though, not torrents.  Makes more sense anyways, we are producing subs, not torrents.

So.. I nominate
BFG - Box Fansub Group
BS   - Box Subs  (abbreviation is already taken for this, so BFG would be more original)

Someone also expressed an interest in having Samuraider, Muramasa, Heavy Metal L-Gaim subbed.

P.S. Once again, for anyone curious about how things work and who does what, here is a general outline of how the process might go. Process Might Go Like This

P.P.S.  I was think about that, a poll that is.  It would be up to the current members whether they want to vote amongst the group, or put up a public poll and leave it at the mercy of the masses, in which case I would have to compile a list of all potential names before creating the poll.

Why don't we just leave the name at 'BOX'? We don't have to have 'subs' in our name.

One other question: are we going to screen the people who come to work for our group, or just let whoever wants to join in? If the latter is the case (or indeed the former), we're going to need some amount of training.

second that, 1 name, unique in all and people will know us. 'Box' is sufficient enough, excluding Subs, Groups and whatever else.

BOX or BFG, I'd put BFG above Box though, because BFG is fucking awesome

I think the group should be more or less incognito until it releases something decent enough that it can announce itself with name and stuff. So the name is the least we should worry about.
For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

We could finish subbing dropped projects, vote on new ones to start from scratch, work on older low profile unsubbed shows, and fix up lower quality releases.

Since when did Amatsuki get dropped, I gotta ask u then?
Ureshii is still doing it and I don't think they plan on dropping it, they just aren't as fast as DB especially since they don't suck as much as them.

i've got amatsuki sitting in my stall harddrive, finished series. i only download/watch finished series. so ... lol, i'd say no.

As for rushing on subbing an episode, lets worry about the name first and getting together to talk things out. I don't like posting via forums, it'd be much easier if we can set up two days out of the week to have a small meeting and brief each other, etc.

AceHigh brought up a good point, we haven't yet discussed release formats.

I think MKV/ASS/h.264/AAC is pretty much accepted as the latest standard these days.  We won't be releasing any HD with old Anime, so playing h.264 @ 640x480 shouldn't be a problem even for people with older systems.  We could also include srt subs for the older comps.

MKV is the most flexible and feature packed container along with soft subs that can be styled and turned on and off.

If there is enough of a demand we could also release in AVI hard subbed, although I don't see a reason aside from burning the release to a DVD.  In that case, the file would have to be converted anyways, and there are programs that work with soft sub mkv files.  I suppose there are the standalone Divx players too...

Thoughts anyone?

.ass isn't too strenuous on older PCs unless you put in special effects (like karaoke or dynamic resizing) into the .ass files themselves instead of hard-coding them.

Secondly, we will release how we want to. Not how the leechers want us to. This is for 2 reasons:
1) We let the leechers know who's boss.
2) We save the encoder a lot of time/money/brain cells.

What kind of material?

Stuff only released in R2/unsubbed/ripped previously?
Older dropped projects?

What kind of sources?
