On a side note, I propose and vote for the completion of Seto no Hanayome and Eyeshield 21. Onegaishimasu.

There's already a group doing ES21. Their group is called Funnuraba and Juggen is a part of it. ;)

Seto no Hanayome could be a possibility, later.  For that one someone will need to learn karaoke(now would be a good time to practice).  Eyeshield is a little to big to start with, we would be working on that for the next 10 years.

I thinks its a better idea for us to start out with some untranslated OVAs or possibly a movie.  Something we can actually finish in a reasonable amount of time and give a sense of accomplishment.  If we start out with something too daunting people will get discouraged and leave.

I'll be happy to help advise with different jobs, just remember any help I or anyone else might give is also freely available on the web.  It just takes a little more effort to find it there.

I would also recommend vdubmod for all its various useful functions.

I don't know if this has ever been brought up before, but what would people here think of starting a BoxTorrents fansub group?
There should be no problem finding enough people here with the necessary skills.

We could finish subbing dropped projects, vote on new ones to start from scratch, work on older low profile unsubbed shows, and fix up lower quality releases.

Just an idea that came to me in the middle of a rant.

*Tentative group roster*

I learned timing and typesetting myself. Got some help with QC though, but it's a lot about exp.

The reason it's developed is 100% for fansubbing...

Yeah, everything you need is also Aegisub, except for the karaoke script generator, you can make some fancy stuff with the click of a button (after you've timed it).

I used Vdubmod for a while to deal with VBR audio I think and pulling streams out of mkv, very handy.  Also making mkv until I found MKVtoolnix.  I don't recall want it does beyond that(over standard Vdub), maybe making those abomination multi-stream AVIs?

@Tatsujin
Would you like to start by learning timing and then work up to karaoke?  I think it would help to know how timing and typesetting work before working on karaoke, they are kinda the building blocks.

I found a nice video tutorial for Aegisub(I won't have time to watch it till tomorrow but it looks helpful), check it out and read up on the tutorials here.

I got the raws for Jigoku Sensei Nube OVA and Movie, looks good.  Anyone interested?

Avoid Aegisub like the plague.
Once you've created your initial script (timing, styling, etc.), use notepad (or equivalent) to edit it. Aegisub has been known to corrupt scripts for no reason at all (even ones it created itself), so best to be safe.

It's not just me. I've received advice from several people telling me this is the case.
Better to be safe than sorry.

Taking request before the group is even formed? WTF...

And there is a reason no one has done this movie but apparently you only read what you want to read.

It was only released in theaters in which they had anime and CGI on three different walls kinda like an IMAX of sorts.... No dvd was ever released.

IMAX cam rip anyone? :P   It does look interesting though.

I should also be getting a raw for Cosmos Pink Shock soon.  Its a stand alone OVA unlike the Jigoku Sensei Nube OVAs, movies, and series, so we could actually 'complete' something.

Never had any problems with Aegisub, course I haven't spent more than 50 hours using it.  There are many different builds out, and some are more stable than others.  I usually keep redundant backups of all video projects I work on for just that reason.  Saving to a different file name every so often, even with commercial software like Premiere(which was a buggy POS anyways), I have lost hours of work to a crash or corrupt save and could never get it as perfect the second time..  :-[

Prospective timers could also check out VisualSubSync, even has a tutorial

Here is a Fansubbing Newbie Guide, like they say ..."no fansubbing process is likely to be exactly like another", but it will give a general idea of what is involved and will be going on.
