It's not necessarily the DVDs fault. The fault lies when doing softsub rips where the timing actually gets changed ever so slightly from the DVD content. I ripped The Slayers long ago (I never made it public but did give it away to a few friends). What needs to happen is use one of the guliverkli utilities (I can't remember which one) where you can actually "stretch" out subtitle times, and what you do is use Virtual dub to get the exact time to the millisecond of when you want to see that subtitle being said, then input that value as the "first subtitle time" and then do the same thing for the very last one. I have found that over an entire DVD which was about 7 episodes, it needed to be stretched about 5 seconds, which makes a HUGE difference.
Anyways, this could have been completely avoided for the current Fushigi Yuugi rip that's out now, whether or not the Pioneer DVDs have poor timing (my guess is they do NOT). Perhaps it might be possible to rip the softsub data into .sub files and then do it by hand with that guliverkli util I mentioned above. It would just be a pain in the ass to do this for 52 episodes or however many there is.

I have Fushigi Yugi 1-52 (R1). I just learned VOB, ripping Ifo in VobSub, mpeg2source, d2v, Decomb, and a lot of other things while working with .Violence Jack'. I always rip the subs for hand. I know how to rip a DVD. I know how to use MeGUI and Handbrake, audio editing, and a bunch of programs I've been forced to learn these past few days, mainly to do with VDM and Avisynth (because of 'Violence Jack')...
...I think I could try. But it will have to wait till I've cleared the table a bit...

After watching your Pokaan release, you need to learn to rip what's important. Some of the stupid ED notes came through, as well as several spelling/grammar mistakes with missing words.

For ED 1 I used Froth-Bite's entirely as GMB lacked any real translation of it, for EDs 2-3 I used the later episodes endings of GMB's release for the earlier episodes, and left any ED notes as comments in the subs. I also included Froth-Bite's endings as comments in the subs. As far as I can tell they don't stray too far from the 'real' translations by GMB. But then, I don't know japanese, so if the later EDs by GMB were screwed up as well, it's a bit hard for me to tell...
If you want, you can open the subfile(s) and compare Froth-Bite's and GMB's endings, as well as GMB's comments...(they're all there)
I did correct some grammar mistakes in the GMB sub, but I admit I might have missed some. And as for missing words, I usually omit any unnecessary short words (eh, what, yes etc...)
