War zones? No, it's not that bad. Unless that one week where the PCC (Capital's First Command) decided to torch a few buses and shoot some cop stations... It was great to drive your car through those avenues where you would usually spend one hour in 10 minutes... Our media is a sensationalist pile of BS, international networks probably base their news on our networks, so you only get the cherry on top of the cream.

Other than that, yes, Brazil doesn't treat its lower classes of society well, but if you are middle class and above, you'll find it quite comfortable here. And the anti-US feeling is pretty strong, but I'm positive that it's more of jealousy rather than the historical reasons (support of two decades of military oppression, etc) that would at least give these feelings authenticity. I for one like the US, and while I do believe that a large portion of US citizens are ignorant, I know that even a large portion of Brazilian are equally stupid if not worse (US education system is not all that great, but it's still years ahead of the shit they're teaching on most schools here).

To tell you the truth, I feel a bit of shame when someone from the same country I was born starts to defecate through their mouths (or better, fingers) on the Internet. It's one of those /facepalm moments, unfortunately this happens often.

Read an article about the rich folks in Brasil. They actually never show themselves on a street. Because of the kidnapping, which is apparently very popular crime, the rich people use helicopter to transport them from one building to another.

Btw, do you disagree with everything here?

Ace, you're very good at going off-topic. It amazes me. I actually forgot what this thread was about reading after my last post.

On topic: The more I think about it, the more I support it. Sometimes enjoyment leads to addiction, addiction leads to action, action leads to illegal activity. In this case, it would be at the expense of a child.

kidnapping is a large issue in most of south america especially if you look like an american
often the ransoms they seek arent terribly large either and the one who is kidnapped ends up dead alot

Looking at it like that, they might as well ban "rapes" and the likes from the web as well.

Out of topic: I won't be able to respond anymore (I'm out until Sunday), we should make a new topic to discuss that later, though.

but the opposite can also be said how many child rapes are prevented by such pornographic material as this?

No, the argument of pornographic material as a gateway is far too strong and well grounded to state that it keeps some people from doing such acts. What is porno but a how-to? You can't tell me you haven't seen a porn and then suggested and maybe even tried to do something similar with your significant other.

@pharismo: and Brazil is a shithole of a third-world country.
As a Brazilian, I've taken offence. While this country is not nearly as developed as it could (and should) be, it's not as bad as what you guys imagine it to be. The use of the outdated "third-world country" shows how close-minded you really are, it's "developing country", just like China, Russia, India, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Vietnam and many other countries. You probably never been to Brazil, and if you did, you obviously went to the Northeastern region, which should never be taken as reference (fact: Southeastern and South regions developed in a different way due to different economic practises throughout the last three centuries, which benefited these regions greatly).

While I agree some people might have been offended by the rather stupid post of my co-patriot (is this right to say?), you could have resorted to a more subtle way of saying it rather than stooping to his level. And lx4, our justice system would be one of the best in the world if it was applied correctly, so the problem doesn't lie within intentions, but rather the actions. Brazil is full of good intentions. Also, sexual tourism is common within the Northeastern part of the country, last time I checked, only three "major" cities existed there, and those are still small when compared to São Paulo, Rio or Belo Horizonte.

But meh.

On topic:

Did they ban virtual/drawn images or not? If they did, I'm pretty sure this goes too far, I mean, no child was harmed or will be harmed because of this.

my god, does no one read the substance of my posts, just the insults?

VIRTUAL IMAGES WERE NOT BANNED. LOLICON IS STILL LEGAL IN THE UNITED STATES. THIS LAW DOES NOT AFFECT THE STATUS OF WHAT IS OR IS NOT CONSIDERED CHILD PORN, IT SIMPLY MAKES PANDERING CHILD PORN (EVEN FAKE CHILD PORN) ILLEGAL.

also: I just do it to piss pharo off, I actually have nothing against Brazil, I have a few friends that are from there and most of the Brazilians I've met have been extremely nice (and when female: attractive) people.

The linear nature of your Euclidean geometry both confounds and befuddles me.

lots of things are considered gateways but for something like child rape and molestation kiddy porn and loli might subdue their urge for that much longer as if they are gonna rape a kid they really didnt object before.

i like to think of things like this like a perv light switch, but the switch isnt just on or off its a dimmer switch, now the temptations vs judgement call things come into play for people even when they are doing fucked up shit but if they can hold themselves off by looking at teh taboo kiddy porn so be it, until their perv switch slides to far and then they just go rape children anyway

It's just his excellent timing that is so amusing. Right after I reed the news of gang wars that turn Brazilian cities into war zones, I check the forum and see that pharis is bashing violence in US. Everyone knows that literally millions live in shanty towns in Brazil and guess what pharis bashes, the poverty in US. And I just love when he bashes the intelligence of the Americans with his nearly incomprehensible posts.

Dude, you just stuck up for Americans!

Back on topic.  All this decision does is allow the State to prosecute a person who advertises child pornography, even if that person no longer possesses the images in question.  They're trying to adapt the law to modern technology, since data on things like flash drives, hard drives, optical media, online storage is pretty easy to get rid of.  The record of the advertiser's IP address; however, is not.
So those people who get excited about animated preteens getting violated by penis tipped tentacles have nothing to fear.  Just don't force a child to watch it with you.  Although that would be prosecuted under a different sort of law.
