Better quality version of Gungrave found, what to do?
« on: May 26, 2008, 11:39:19 AM »
Currently the best alternative of Gungrave -series in boxtorrents is AonE's. Checking from AniDB and comparing the actual quality of AonE's and KAA's versions of the series, I discovered that KAA's version IS realy better.

The one by AnoE is watchable, but I personaly opt for the best quality version available (dont we all?) and would like to the one by KAA to be seeded.

The question is, what should I do to get the best version of Gungrave available to be seeded in boxtorrents?

Download KAA version, then make a torrent file of it and request upload on the tracker. That's it.
For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

On the dual-audio side of things, it would also be nice if AHQ distro would upload their Gungrave release, I'd definitely want to upgrade from the a4e release that I have.

EDIT: I suppose it is available on AHQ's own tracker, but it would be nice to have it on Box as well.

Same here. I want to see if it's better than KAA's version.  :P

AHQ version has slightly larger resolution (768X432) and seems to have marginally fewer artifacts, from the few screenshots I compared. I'll try to upload it once I have the full series.

Except only AHQ distro can upload AHQ releases, so we'll have to ask them to upload it. KAA's release is an older WMV9/XviD release, as opposed to AHQ's h264. Plus, I've heard good things about the English audio for Gungrave, and KAA doesn't have it.

That sucks. I guess we'll just have to see if one of AHQ's staff uploads it. :P

Yeah, unfortunately :P I'll archive AHQ's and replace the current one with KAA's then. Even if it's not the best version out there, it's still better than AonE.

So KAA used fan translations for their release of Gungrave? If KAA just used ripped R1 subtitles (you say the source is R1 DVD, AFAIK they usually use borrowed fansubs with their R2 rips) like AHQ/A4E, than the AonE version shouldn't be replaced (following the BoxTorrents's policy to always keep a fansub release), right? And generally speaking about quality: video quality is not the synonym of the overall quality of the release, even if some think it is. ;)

And re: comparing video quality of 275 MB / episode DVD rip (KAA) VS 175 MB / episode 2003-4 DTV rip (AonE); if KAA's version hadn't been significantly better, it would have meant there's something terribly wrong with their encoders.

By the way, shouldn't this thread belong to the Uploader's Forum section instead of this one? Not all people check all the threads on BoxTorrents's forums. I, for one, nitpick only on the first three sections of this board.

I don't know either, I suspect they want greater control over distribution. And if it's uploaded without their permission I guess they spread word about it and that's not good for reputation...? But I'd rather be safe in this case.

For your information, someone from AHQ's staff already uploaded Gungrave. ;)
