Unable to download .torrent files
« on: May 29, 2008, 05:16:25 PM »
I'm trying to download the torrent files so I can download (and eventually seed).  When I try to download the .torrent, it just stalls and never starts.  I've tried a few files, but nothing.

For the sake of removing possible causes, made sure not using download/hosts blocker when connecting.

I now don't think it's a ration issue as I've over 1.0 (still normal user though).

I used to, but during the last few days fails for almost all .torrent files from various sites so I'm guess filter.  Using web proxies isn't helping either.  Thanks for the help anyway.

Same question, but other sites are compliant when I download the .torrent files.
I tried both Firefox and IExplorer, but no go.
On BT it takes either several tries or it doesn't work at all.

I did noticed that the ones giving me the hardest times were the heavier ones, like HD torrent files, the lighter ones aren't issue, but it's bothersome when I'm trying to download a .torrent file of a series.
.torrent files of music aren't causing any trouble.

Sorry for bouncing this topic, but it's urgent~

What ISP are you both with? Perhaps you have something in common.

I don't think 1 ISP covers both Israel and USA...
I myself get some .torrent file hanging when downloading files from Nyaa or AniRena but usually trying with a diff. browser does the trick.
I'm not sure what causes it, tried clearing your cache/cookies?

I tried, and it's the same.
As I said, it's a phenomena that only happens on BT, other places don't give hard time.
And I'm pretty sure it's not the file itself that making the problem, because I tried download FF Complete from BT, it didn't work, but when I went to the sub group's site, it finished in five seconds and the torrent worked fine.

They aren't the same .torrent.

All of our .torrents are limited to a certain size; I don't remember what it is offhand, but that should eliminate differences between large and small torrents, as the larger ones will have larger pieces.

I'd be curious to know what something like wget does when trying to download the file.  Since I'm assuming you're on Windows, though, you don't have it (or anything similar that I know of), but you can try installing the windows version if you're feeling adventurous.

It looks too complicated, and just to dl a torrent.  :D
But thanks a lot anyway.

Btw, can I download a .torrent file using the program's features (I mean the torrent program)?
Like inserting the address of the torrent and it'll download the files I want without the actual .torrent file.

Am I making any sense at all? XD Sorry if I'm driving you crazy here~

uTorrent has "Add file from URL .." in the File menu.

So I suspect any other client will be able to do the same.

Just out of curiosity are you guys doing "Open with" and not "save as" when downloading?

Open with.

I can configure ütorrent if I'm looking to save the torrent files.

There should be no need to do 'Save as' or 'Open with .. ', you should register .torrent files to uTorrent* and following any link that looks like a .torrent file will be opened by uTorrent* instead.

* uTorrent or whatever client you're using.

Anubis, is your ISP TPG? Are you an Australian Internet user?
