Author Topic: Anyone else get freaked out when you first joined? (Read 11569 times)

So I recently joined. Though I've been watching fansubs since 1994. I downloaded "Clanned" as one of my first animes from here since everyone has been raving about it. (which, it was a damn good anime but did leave me yearning for more, like did

. I'd rate it a solid 8.7 (I'm a hologram from the future joke scene was priceless)

After downloading this, I kept hearing reviews that Kanon was similar. I downloaded it, and indeed it was. So I glance up at my ratio, and I'm at like a .712. After reading how people got suspended and banned, I'm like SHIT!
I'm back to 1.4 or so, but how are the mods here? Do they take into account new users tenure before implementing the ban hammer? I do notice, that because of the ratio requirements that downloading is extremely fast, uploading on the other hand is a bit slower going. It's got me a bit nervous.

Off topic, I know the animators of the clanned and kanon anime have to be the same. There are too many similarities. I noticed the "twirling of the pen/pencil in your hand while in school" move, along with many others to obvious to point out.

They weren't enforcing the warnings/bans when I joined so.. no.

You've got to be way below .7 before you get banned, you'd get warned first and given time to seed your ratio back up. Jarudin hasn't revealed any of the numbers for where the cutoffs are but there are folks on here with a .15 ratio who aren't banned, they just can't download until they seed back up to some level. Having a ratio over 1 gets some extra privileges but it it not required for participation.

The mods here are pretty cool i think. You would need a horrible horrible ratio to worry about being banned for it. They even added the warn system so if your ratio gets to low you can seed and get it back up without getting yelled at or banned. Really the only poeple that get banned are poeple that constantly break the rules or poeple that try and exploit the ratio system. You dont hear much of that though since they added personal torrent ids for poeple. As long as you try and keep a decent ratio nobody is going to bother you.

No. To me every mod and admin is cool. I'm pretty sure they're not too strict about ratios either, unless you have some horrible ratio like 0.0001. Some are funnier than others, though.

Ironically, your "off-topic" discussion is on-topic (considering the forum it is in), while the rest of it (ratio discussion) is not

I'm less-than-a-fortnight new (though I've used Box's public tracker plenty of times in the past), and I think the mods are great too.

Both Kanon (2006 series) and Clannad are animated by Kyoto, based on the original game by Visual Key. If you liked them you might like Air as well, done by the same two companies mentioned.

i believe its not so much ratio as it is ratio combined with quantity IE if you downloaded a shit ton and uploaded not quite as much, but like .01 ratio with 500gig dled vs .01 with 10gig dled who do you think is the bigger problem, at least thats my assumption/guess

Nice, Thanks for the recommendation. I usually don't dig "harem" (or whatever the hell thats supposed to mean) animes but these have been pretty decent.

Also, I apologize that this is in the wrong forum...Habit of using "general" forums as a place to post my incoherent ramblings.

that girl ever wake up? she did provide some comedic moments after her arc was over with though.

yea when they changed the rules, ratio and stuff like that in a way it was a benefit for the site and boxtorrents is actually very popular, its why alot of leechers come here but some of them turn to obey the rules and what not. my ratio was like standing at .7 and then went to like .64x ... i was a little scared, and recently i got a new connection with faster download/upload speed so with that being said, it helped alot on pushing off more upstream to others. wheee~ i like seeding now, but i download tons of other stuff and i play MMO's on my comp and PS3, once that happens utorrent is off limits -- lag free, sirs =P

If you keep a ratio of 1, you'll never have anything to worry about.

i had a ratio of no higher then .65 for 2.5 years a majority of that time spent below .2 rofls

since i can upload faster then 40kb and not get dced now i seed like shit

My max up is close to 40 too, and I was a heavy public-tracker leecher so just paying back my dues now I guess.

I'm considering getting a 10Mb down/1Mb up plan just for personal use, sharing the current 3Mb down/350kb up plan with the family isn't working out too well ><

Sometimes it's hard for people to keep a great ratio, because there are a lot of people here with insane upload speeds who keep it up 24 hours a day, so I think as long as it seems as though you're putting up an effort and not ditching on every torrent you download you'll be good.

I'm pretty sure mgz has it right the closest from what I remember reading. I vaguely remember somebody being warned for having .99 or something ratio, but that .01 was in the many gigs because of how much he downloaded. Just keep a 1 ratio and you're fine. Enough of the public people don't reseed it shouldn't be a huge issue. If you're in trouble go get one of the torrents that's got trouble seeding (bonus points) and just seed there for a while

im doing that right now in a week i almost got 600 bonus points heh. plus i leave my torrents up when ever im not working on this comp.

besides you shouldnt have a problem if its a home connection. just leave the torrent up when you sleep or are out of the house and why you are watching that anime on that comp.

Yes, she does wake up in the after story (direct continuation of Nagisa's route, for those who were wondering).

hahaha, YESSSSSSSSSSSS. I love CLANNAD. I'm glad you love CLANNAD. Everyone should love CLANNAD :O!!!

And yeah...Kanon is just as good ;P

Oh and BTW, like psyren said, just keep your ratio up at 1.0 and you have nothing to fear when it comes to the ban hammer ^^

I thought Clannad was a pretty good series, nothing spectacular, but I did chuckle a lot.

I haven't brought myself to download Kanon, although I could download it and put it on my "to-watch" list (probably would take 3 months), I just don't want to do it for some reason. =/

Also, I've kept my ratio above 1 for a while now, just so I can upload any torrents if needed.

Probably another week before i hit 3200 or Power User >_>

I like all of the Visual Key game-to-anime series, they're not eye-grabbing (unless you mean moe-wise) and they won't make a very big impression on you, but when I'm close to getting anime burnout and I just want to sit down and relax with something I find myself doing that with either Aria, Marimite or VK's stuff. Somehow I just keep gravitating back to them, and I can't say the same for other series taht I've watched so far.
