I know, that's my point. Games are coming out that support dual core. Not much in the way of quad core support yet. But like I said, that's the only thing I'm iffy about. I think I'll get a quad core in the hopes that more games come out soon supporting it. I also don't want to buy a new CPU a year from now.

Well if it is multi-threaded to support a dual core processor then it also supports a Quad Core processor. Windows will just allocate the threads to whatever core has the most resources free.

Yes it'll support a quad core, but it won't use all four cores. Here's a review that shows this relatively plainly. The review shows how amazing the Q6600 is at overclocking but that's not what I'm interested in here...

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core2quad-q6600_8.html#sect0

As you can see, only a few games actually use all the cores (on that page there Supreme Commander and sorta Lost Planet). I'm trying to find a list of games that are multithreaded, but basically, there aren't many.

yea if your just running the game thats fine but with 4 cores you can spread shit out and make it so the 2 cores being utilized are just that
which i why 4 core ftw

if your going for performance numbers and have nothing but os and game running then yea obviously for a majority of games dual core wins and for older games 1 amazing single core could prlly do the same

You haven't seen slow yet.

You want slow, I'll give you slow.
This is my seedbox, it was fast in 1998 when it was new.

Not exactly pleased with my results, truthfully this computer is brand new(been less than a week since I put it together) and I'm looking for a decent water cooling system so overclocking won't be a problem when I'll have the time to deal with it. And I still have to setup raidz2 and fine tune the GPU.

To be honest, you spent too much on RAM and GPU but you cheaped out on the CPU. You should have bought a Q9450, it has twice the L2 cache and usually overclocks better. The GPU is good, but you could've done better if you had waited for the HD4k series and done Crossfire.

Also, don't waste money on watercooling (unless you'll be getting a $300+ one), a good air cooler will allow you to overclock stably to 4GHz if the core is good.

also its basically a waste of tiem to oc the gx2  why bother with the extra heat when it should handle any game out maxed settings easily

Hmm, where to start? :P Basically this computer is a two months late birthday gift, meaning that I didn't have much say about what's put in it. I just paid the extra money for 5 SATA disks later on. The CPU was the best that could be ordered (and I doubt i could ever OC it over 3.6GHz) at that time (mind, the supply here is limited too). Dunno why it was mentioned that too much was spent on RAM and the GPU (ok, with the latter I might agree...), but at the time of ordering it was pretty cheap, so I guess that's why they went with it.

About GX2, it can't handle The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion on everything maxed out (I also blame this crap version of vista for that), so I'm still planning on testing it with Crysis... And highly doubt I'll be satisfied with the results if I don't OC it.

About water cooling, it's still just in my mind since at the moment I'm flat broke, once I finish my summer work, I'll look into it more cautiously (one of my friends paid about 240€ for a water cooling system and it can be summarized with one word: crap).

Hopefully I'll be able to find time for this computer soon... Damn exams!
