The whole reason people Snipe is to prevent someone from "bidding up" the price on them.

For example I see a widget, I'm willing to pay up to $50 for, if I bid early and set my max as $50 I guarantee someone will run it up, if I snipe at the last second nobody gets a chance to play with it and I will probably get a better price.

yah thats what im talking bout. . . if i place a "50 dlls bid" then in the item description it will say "50 dlls bid"  . . . and you CANT enter a bid lower than the cuurent bid. . . so thats what i mean if it started at .99 cents. . . then if i place a 50 bid it wont stay at 99 cents it will jump all the way up to 50. . .

so. . . its a bot!

Yes and no, not in the way you're thinking...

It works like this:

Say opening price is $1, I'm willing to pay 51$ so I put in my max bid of $51 since I'm the first bidder Ebay only increments my bid to $1 to start Then you come along and max-bid $50 but Ebay already knows my max is $51 so my bid automatically goes to $51 and you're outbid.  That's how they designed it.

so on the bidding history your "51" wont appear? and you will not get charged the 51 dlls. . . . . and then that only works for the first bidder i guess. . .or the highest bidder in the case ? and theyll hide your bid?

no, it won't appear on the bid history (unless the bidding actually goes that high).

no, you won't get charged the full $51 (again, unless people bid up that high).

ebay's auto-bidding makes it so that the person with the highest max bid wins. using bcr's example: opening price is $1, I'm willing to pay 51$ so I put in my max bid of $51 since I'm the first bidder. Ebay only increments my bid to $1 to start. Then you come along and max-bid $75. The price would go up to the inext increment after my max bid of $51... so the item would now be at $52. if no one else bids, you win the item at $52, and no one would know what your max bid was.

capisce?

(lord... isn't there faq or something you can use?)

Is it really that hard to get?  I use it all the time as a buyer and a seller, and it seems simple enough a concept for me.

I think Thaiger explained it as simply as possible.
