Light Novels Category?
« on: June 19, 2008, 05:54:04 PM »
Well, I was thinking that it's never been done before. A lot of anime is based off of manga or light novels or something in a triangular relationship with those 3.  Personally, I would be interested to see what's out there that the box community can find. yeah?

Very few of them are in English, and the more popular ones that have been translated inevitably end up being licensed (see: Suzumiya Haruhi).

We don't mind licensed manga, since no companies have taken any action against us.

It's an interesting suggestion. We haven't really thought about it since no one has ever offered one.

No one has? Aren't some of the anime harassers also dealing in manga?

He was talking about light novels.

We do have the Robotech novels. <_>

However, Baka-Tsuki did say something about removing content if it got licensed... or was it merely when they got contacted.

It sorta depends on the people who translated it.

Baka-tsuki is all I need.

Will be converting their light novels to PDF upon completion (of their project). I have Haruhi Vol 1-9 in PDF already, just waiting for my research allowance to come in so I can buy Bluebeam PDF and do more editing, i.e. inserting the colour inserts. If you want it drop me a PM.

Yea, I have the Haruhi Light novels on PDF, too. I was wondering what else was out there that I could read. I'm guessing the standard would be in PDF format, if they would be uploaded. I don't see why they wouldn't work on box.

What is Baka-Tsuki?

Baka-Tsuki is a wiki-driven translation 'team'.

They're most famous for Suzumiya Haruhi light novel translations, and then Zero no Tsukaima... they also have Fate/Zero, Kara no Kyoukai, the Clannad Visual Novel project, are a host for the Umineko no Naku Koro ni Visual Novel project... plenty of projects. :)

Oh, man. That's sweet. I'm pushing for this category all the more now. I wanna get my hands on that Baccano! and Fate novels. Clannad as well.

Er... Clannad will be released as a patch for the actual game.

I do believe many of the translations appearing on Baka-Tsuki for Fate/Zero actually originate from Beast's Lair.

Problem is, if you look through Baka's list of actually translated books, the list is small. Most people worked on Haruhi, but not much else; some novels are completely stalled, and very few are complete....

For some reason, I just get the feeling that the only thing anyone would be talking about in this category (if it's made) is the Haruhi novels...

Cute, huh?

Hmm, personally I'm trying to find the Baccano! novels in pdf. It's not anywhere except on the wiki site. I just can't read the entire series on wiki.... clicking the links over and over, and such.

I'm planning on formatting those I want to read, then creating PDFs of them (Haruhi done to V9 so far). Could do Baccano for you if you want, just let me know when they're complete.

How do you formatt them into pdfs?
Well it looks like only volume 1 of baccano is the only fully translated one.

Some hard work in Word, and a print to PDF option. Perhaps a PDF editor too.

Long live Foxit. <_>

Yep. I'm using Bullzip PDF Printer (freeware) at the moment. Was using Bluebeam PDF Revu for the editing, currently stalled since the trial version is over and I'm waiting for my research stipend to come in so I can buy an actual copy (it's a really good editor, but pricey...).

Nope, isohunt has nothing on it. But Bluebeam's that good, and worth the money (even if it's not a very well-featured PDF annotator, but as a PDF editor it's one of the best).

Hmm, I've only ever used NitroPDF and Foxit PDF editor. Have you ever tried those?
