That is my speculation, don't take rumors like this seriously. Still you would love the story to go that way, right?  ;)
For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

I'd be happy just to see Near and Misa get fucked up.

Actually my good sir, technically L is the one who is a bastard. (So is Near and Melo)

L and Light are two sides of the same coin. The largest difference is in eating habits and social deficiencies. After that would be how they viewed other people. Light tended to emphasis how worthless people are and thus used them as disposable tools. L didn't even see people and toyed with them as a result. Aside from those three thing they were the same person. If L is a bastard, then so is Light. As for Melo and Near...I think we should start looking for the other 13 pieces so we can defend against impending doom.

In the beginning of the story, there were plenty of 'Light as a Shinigami' references - see some of the title pages.

I think as Death Note got more popular, the pressure on the mangaka to not 'reward' a murderer was ramped up and so the ending was the way it was. Light was supposed to become a Shinigami, but the mangaka decided to not stick their neck out too much...

Light is not a murderer! He is the god of a new world. Is your god a murder? No, so don't call the new world's god one.

One person's Massacre is another person's Glorious Victory.  Murder, smiting--it's all in the point of view.

So bad...yet, so good...

Um... he was born a human and died a human. As a human, he caused the deaths of countless other humans - hence, he was a murderer.

The (G)od of the current world was never human - unless you count Jesus, but even he wasn't really human, no matter how much the Bible says he was human (can you turn water into wine?) - and his/her/its killing of humans is no more than what people do to robots once they are no longer useful.

There is a difference. :P

He definitely has my vote for all time bastard as well without a doubt but! As much of a bastard as he was...I can't say I hated him. Rather he intrigued me to no end. I could not wait to see what he'd do next. And instead of being happy when he died--as I normally would when a oh so bastard-like character dies--the did not happen. I was actually sadden when that darn genius bastard died lol...I mean c'mon you have to admire the guy. Even the word brilliant comes short when describing him...yes sin after sin he committed but hey you can't change the world without getting your hands dirty after all. Not that I agree he should have taken on such a task but that is besides the point ^^;

Okay there we go. The only god that ever appears in history is Yahweh. Irregardless of your religious beliefs you should know this statement is wrong. This is a work of fiction, if you want to impose your religious beliefs on others grab a stick and hit some godless infidels on the back of the head...it works better...or just think a bit more, as my argument against isn't about my religion versus your, but your failure in using it when you shouldn't.

My vote for all time "Bastard" goes to Dark Schneider.

Actually it doesn't, but I had to reference the wicked "Bastard" anime OVA since no one else has yet. Which makes me wonder, do people still watch the great classics anymore?

My religious beliefs? Excuse me?

A 'god' isn't something human. It has nothing to do with which god, appearing when.

Comparing Light to Yagami (and that his 'killing' of humans was not murder) is not viable.

You are trying to apply your own brand Christianity while still pretending that its general. Have you no considered other religions?

Um... the definition of 'god':
1.   the one Supreme Being, the creator and ruler of the universe.
2.   the Supreme Being considered with reference to a particular attribute: the God of Islam.
3.   (lowercase) one of several deities, esp. a male deity, presiding over some portion of worldly affairs.
4.   (often lowercase) a supreme being according to some particular conception: the god of mercy.
5.   Christian Science. the Supreme Being, understood as Life, Truth, Love, Mind, Soul, Spirit, Principle.
6.   (lowercase) an image of a deity; an idol.
7.   (lowercase) any deified person or object.

Ergo: not a human.

The reference to Jesus was to put off any Christian arguments that Jesus - as God - was human. But he wasn't.

Just because I only refer to one religion doesn't mean that the rest of the stuff I said was also only talking about that one religion.

And really... me? Christian? Hah. Nice try, but you're real far off, nstgc. :)

So then you will agree with the statement "there have been no human gods in the history of the this planet"?

Dark Schneider is 10 googolplex times more badass in the manga. speaking of which I need to buy any new volumes that've come out.

@kanzar: Buddah was a man before he allegedly became a god.

Light gets several votes from me,he's nothing more than a conceited, egotistical coward.
I more than once wished I could enter the story and kill him in a very unpleasant way with my own hands.
There's no one in the world I'm interested in surpassing, excepted for myself.

Deified... I suppose he was deified. Only after his death, though. *rolls eyes* While he was Kira, and practicing, he wasn't a god... XD

And what does agreeing to that statement have to do with the argument...? No human is a god. Kira was known to be more than human after his death, because it's easier to say a god brought judgement upon people than 'another human thought these people should die'.
