Light Yagami gets my vote for All-Time Bastard

Mello was in his twenties. He was only a little younger then L.

Light's base personality was very stable. You get some new toy and its illegal. You think "may was well try it so long everything turns out well" and holy hell, it works. Gradually you get more comfortable. As time progresses you get a bit paranoid and protective. Light began as an idealist who wanted to be a god and he died an idealist who thought he had become one.

Also, next time, can you break that up into paragraphs. When its in "solid block of text" form, its hard to read.

Also, @Auzrian, Griffith was far from being the greatest bastard of all. Recall, assuming you have watched/read death note, that Light scarified his own father while lying to him (strait-faced no less) and killed his supporters. Also, Grifith had an extremely shitty life. From the anime he had tongue cut out so he couldn't speak, his tends in his wrists cut so he could never fight, and his tendons in his legs slashed so he couldn't stand no less walk or run. Half starved and probably throughly raped, his life was hell. Given the circumstances, I bet most people would have ended up in a similarly twisted state. Certainly they would hate Gutsu. What was lights plight? He was bored? He was a strait A pretty boy would could have had anything he wanted. He was loved and respected up until the final episode.

That doesn't change the fact that Griffith came face to face with Guts a  couple of years after the incident and told him the he had absolutely no regrets, and that it felt like just another day in his life.

Griffith was always like that.
He didn't care about anyone, or anything but his "dream".
He used every single person he met to achieve his goals.

After Guts had assassinated the prince of (I forgot what it was called), he accidentally overhears Griffith tell Charlotte that he does not think of his companions as friends, because they are not his equals. He feels that he is superior. Which he is of course. This makes Guts leave the Band of the Hawk. When Griffith tries to stop him, Guts beats him in one swift stroke. This crushes Griffith completely, and is what leads to his demise.

It wasn't Guts' fault that Griffith's plan backfired.

The anime is utter shit compared to the manga. Seriously. That is common knowledge, I guess.
They leave too many important things out of the anime.

If you haven't read the manga, I recommend you do so.


All of this may be confusing to people who have never read, or watched Berserk.
Also, the way I type is quite fucked up, but hopefully you understand what I'm getting at.

I've read, and watched Death Note multiple times.
And I also read through your post.

I know exactly what Light did, and it's nothing compared to Griffith's actions.
I just summed up a few of the important things he did.

I just didn't see Light as the bad guy.  In fact, I was rooting for him to win.  Near and Mellow are just douches, and nowhere near as cool as L was.  He wasn't a bastard at all.  He was pretty damn cool to me.

Griffith is definitely more evil.  The end scene in the anime pretty much tops anything Light ever did.  Killing people isn't that big of a deal compared to the torture Griffith put people through.

First he sacrifices every single one of his friends (Band of the Hawk, his personal army), who would do anything for him, just to save himself, and become a "god".

Then he rapes Caska, Guts' (the main character) girlfriend right in front of him, causing Guts to go batshit insane and cut off his own arm to save her. He runs towards them, killing countless demons with his broken sword, while the blood is gushing out of his right arm, just to get struck down right in front of her, and get his right eye crushed by one of Griffith's new servants. The last thing his right eye sees, is the love of his life being raped by his best friend.
The worst part is that she wakes up during all of this, and seems to be enjoying it.

She begs Guts not to watch.

After the rape, Gaiseric, the Skull Knight comes crashing down, and saves both Guts and Caska.

2 years later, Guts finally finds Griffith, or more like the other way around... The only thing Griffith has to say is "I came to see if there was anything to sway my heart... But it seems that I am free."

Also, Guts and Griffith had known each other for nearly 10 years, and were best friends. At least Guts thought of Griffith as a friend. Griffith thought of Guts as an irreplaceable object, he could use whenever he wanted.

TL;DR: Griffith is the most evil dickhole of a villain of all time.

Griffith is such an evil bastard. If you want one of the most depressing anime endings evar, watch Berserk. The last episode made me want to destroy my harddrive.

I put my vote in there, he is one of my favorite anime characters, and a completely evil fuck. The thing is that you go from sympathizing with him early on, and gradually see him lose his mind, up until towards the end when you realize, "Oh shit this guy is fucked up".

I don't think I've ever seen any character in anime or movies as cold-hearted and black-souled as Light Yagami in this series.  Not even Michael Corleone at the end of 'The Godfather' could beat this.  Maybe it was because he was portrayed more favorably at the beginning.

Anyways, now to watch Code Geass next (also on cable)...
