Macross F, is there need to see prequels?

it might help, althrough from what I have watched so far of Macross F just watching Macross - Do You Remember Love and Macross zero would be enough (mainly because I'm starting to see links to Macross zero

There are some minor references now and then, but they are not that important, so there is no real need to see prequels.
