Blade of the Immortal (Mugen no Juunin)
« on: August 05, 2008, 05:37:03 AM »
How do you like it so far?  The next great slice and dice show?

Looks better than Ninja Scroll TV, maybe even Berserk..

Well the only thing I don't like about it so far is the friggin two week wait(at least) between each episode. I think Bee Train's animation is good so far and as far as I can tell the character designs are faithful to the manga. Btw, does anyone know how many episode are planned?

I like it. I wouldn't say it better then Berserk so easily and so early though. I am wondering whats up with the women in the opening credits. Why is she tied up some times and blowing some guy at others? It doesn't make sense. Speed Grapher had lots of stuff like that in their opening, but the series had a lot of perversion in it. This looks like its just going to be a hack 'em up kill-fest so there is no need for the opening to be like it is.

I like this anime alot so far. As someone above said, it does suck that it's a bi-weekly show.

Gaa!  I can't take the suspense!  Thats what I get for watching as it is released.  Normally I wait till a whole show is out.
Few exceptions are Lucky Star, GITS SAC, Black Lagoon, NHK.  All my waking hours were spent waiting for the new episodes. :'(

I totally lucked out with Tenshi na Konamaiki, when I discoved it all 50 eps were out and I ended up watching them in one sitting after NHK. *whew* what a marathon. At least we had a laptop hooked up to a nice 52" big screen and someone to go on food runs.

Berserk was awesome as far as the fights and drama, but Griffith kinda creeped me out  :-\

BTW a bit OT, but anyone heard of the new HBO series True Blood?  I liked the books and the pilot was impressive. It could be a great series, has the budget and actors..

Yeah, I was thinking about that earlier today. However, they have different feels.  One is a war between ninja clans where as the other is one mans fight against fate. Or thats how I feel.

Yay, I decided to become active on this board :P

Well, I like the anime so far...even though I thought that the first episode was kinda strange.

Worms healing him and such.

but, well, more nice story in great characters and it will stay on my "to watch" list =)

I've been reading the manga and have 4 volumes in my bookshelf and plan to buy the rest aswell. I really like the Blade of the Immortal manga. I hope the anime is decent atleast. Gonna download some episodes right away.

as far as I know there is only yet 1 group and they seem to be decent and below. Raw problems or something like that maybe. (read at anidb comments)

Yeah I think this group is the only one subbing the show at the moment but I could be wrong:

Both Frontal Web Fansub(FwF) and Kesenai-Subs-Anime Enlightenment Network(KSN-AEN) are subbing it.  FwF did a poor job of editing, there were a lot of grammatical errors and such I noticed after watching their release first.

KSN-AEN are the highest quality ATM, didn't see any big problems with theirs.  Video and audio were average, a few artifacts and blocking, but nothing distracting and you probably wouldn't even notice unless you were looking for it.
Some people are too damn nit-picky.  A preference of good quality is a given, but if you are constantly scanning for compression artifacts when you watch Anime it kinda takes the enjoyment out of it.  There are also many post filters that do a fine job of eliminating minor video glitches.

I can't get the subs to work for KSN-AEN's version of episode 2. Well, they run in VLC, but I don't like VLC. I tried remuxing them, and playing around with DVD settings, but it didn't work. I then tried fwf, but their audio made my ears bleed. So I mux together the audio stream from KSN-AEN and the video from fwf since its hard subbed (who hard subs these days aside from SHS). I didn't realize when I did this that fwf's video stream looked as bad as their audio steam sounded.

Any suggestions?

[edit] Oops, got that backwards.

MPC with FFDShow plays everything and anything for me.  Just make sure you have output set to VMR9 (renderless) under view>options for softsubs to work.

I wrote a big tutorial on it here, but it kept getting wiped with the forum updates.  There is a copy of it HERE

I guess I could re-post it.

I'm using MPlayer in Linux. I'm not some n00b who is using WMP and not understanding why he can't play mkv files. Also, VMR9 shouldn't be used. It discolors the image and uses more resources then overlay (In Vista though it seems to be the best).

Anyway, this isn't the play back forum, and I was more complaining then anything else. I'm dissatisfied with both of the current groups. After posting that last message I noticed the video seems to be the same for both groups so the "HD" raw that they are both using is trash. I have no clue whats with the audio.

ep 8 was subbed over a month ago. where's 9+?!
i love this show and no way am i not going to finish it. its already done airing in japan
i dowloaded the rest of the series - but in chinese subs - i'd rather watch it and not know what they're saying than not watch it at all. its awesome.
