An anime I can't find: Lady lady!!
« on: August 12, 2008, 11:08:13 AM »
Lady lady!! is an cute anime published in 1987 or so. I watched it when I was little, but I never got to see it from beginning to end and it has been bothering me for years. Does anyone have any clue where I could find it, in any form (english subs/dub)?
Thanks.

Wrong section.

...And neither the TV-series (21 episodes) or movie has ever been subbed in english...

Well, there's a number of World Masterpiece Theater titles that were/are shown on german/italian/spanish/some other european channels that unfortunately have never been released/subbed in english :-\...

Some of those titles include;
Robin Hood no Daibouken
Alps Monogatari Watashi no Annette (Alps Stories: My Annette,  Die Kinder vom Berghof)
Ai no Wakakusa Monogatari (Little Women)
Lady Georgie
Takarajima (Treasure Island, partially subbed)
Flanders no Inu (Dog of Flanders, only movie has been subbed)
Ai Shoujo Pollyanna
Alps no Shoujo Heidi (only first episodes have been subbed in english)
Ie Naki Ko Remi
Makiba no Shoujo Katri (Katri, Girl of the Meadows)

Live-eviL is doing a great service by picking up several of WMT titles, but otherwise, the interest in these older WMT titles is just so small it might as well be a drop in the ocean :'(  Not even one of the newer WMT titles, Les Miserables: Shoujo Cosette, has been subbed for more than a couple of episodes...

This surely seems miserable. Here in Finland there is quite much discussion going on over Lady lady. Maybe 'cause it was partly published in Finnish when I was young. And now the people who watched it then have grown up and are interested on seeing it all in it's glory, eh. I hope something comes up.
Thank you for your replies by now.

Perhaps the AnimeSuki forums are a place to try to post a thread to stimulate some more interest among the fansubbers for the WMT titles??

Makiba no Shoujo Katri (Katri, Girl of the Meadows)

The first twelve episodes of Katri were subbed in English and Finnish by a group called Ushi-Ai.  They're available on AnimeSuki.  Granted, that's not exactly the whole 49, but it's still something.

Alps no Shoujo Heidi has actually been dubbed in English. Cartoon Network India aired the English version twice in 2001 and 2002 but after that they never aired it.

I saw the whole series in English on Cartoon Network India and in my opinion the English dubbing was very very good...The VO artists did a very good job...

Unfortunately it has not aired anywhere else except India in English...

Stage Storm picked up the manga. They recently translated Chapter 1 of Volume 1. Finding their forum is another story entirely though. I know where it is, but Stage Storm is really secretive and wishes for their fans/members to be as secretive for them too. Sorry.

It is a shame that classics like these are often overlooked in favor of projects such as the latest crappy Naruto episode or series that are essentially guaranteed to get US releases.  :(

Well, part of it is due to raw availability. It's a lot harder to locate raws from classics than it is for currently airing thigns.

I'm ALWAYS nice. Well... except when I'm ebil. But I'm only ebil when I'm bored. Although... I'm bored all the time. Not that that's a problem is it? ;)

there used to be a fansub group, I forget who though, that used to only do the classics. wouldn't touch anything new because everyone does those anyways. wish I could remember who they were.  ???

That is very true. Many are able to record right off TV. The ability to obtain source material at no cost makes a job easier to commit to. However, as many subbers later release DVD versions, they could as easily obtain DVD sets of older titles instead of/in addition to newer titles. It is unfortunate that Japanese DVDs are so insanely priced to obtain as subbing source material. Though, I suppose one could easily obtain HK or other releases as sources.
