Why do we not allow torrents of anime from certain companies?
« on: August 30, 2008, 07:45:36 PM »
Funi is the only company on our "do not post" list that isn't in severely dire straits financially, so lawsuits are a non-issue with ADV and CPM.

Plus, CPM has a nasty habit of letting their titles go OOP after a short print run. They're half the reason why Genocyber is so damned obscure, I think.

First of I think this is in the wrong part of the forum...

Second, those other companies has sent letters about afaik, therefor to prevent problem they don't get added to the site.
As time has shown, hope exists only in name. It´s actual meaning is despair.

I put this in here because it's rather likely to get derailed into a discussion of anime licensors, and I'd frankly rather not give the mods much trouble when that happens.

Because they asked and we complied? This is a tracker. We don't want any any extra problems than we need to deal with.

Also... we're not assholes who go "nyah nyah, you're broke, how are you going to sue me now?"

Finally, it's called a class action lawsuit.
This is your home now. So take advantage of everything here, except me.

Finally, it's called a class action lawsuit.

iirc a corporation can't file a class action lawsuit.

also, a corporate "broke" can still hire a lot of lawyers.

The linear nature of your Euclidean geometry both confounds and befuddles me.

Lawyers can also develop a class action lawsuit on their own as long as they canvass and get a number of "victims" listed on the lawsuit.

Locally, one lawyer took up a lawsuit on behalf of a homeless person who was injured.  The lawyer pocketed over 60% of the award and of course, he was not the victim (who was maimed).   Happy profits in the free enterprise system.

I found Genocyber on Amazon.com Marketplace for $12 plus shipping used just four months ago, no problem; and it was in excellent condition with no scratches or anything, so its really not that hard to find. You can also get it as box set along with MD Geist and Cybernetic Guardian for $30 new, and I believe that's still in print.

I've kind of wondered why it was bad to have torrents for those companies but its okay to have torrents for other US licensors such as Media Blasters, Bandai, Dark Horse, Viz, and various others.

Because the others haven't send C&D letters (yet *crosses fingers*), simple as that. And really it's all illegal anyway, as the Japanese producers and copyright holders could conceivably send C&Ds as well.

Got any old fansubs on HDD/DVD/CD? Please take a look at this thread.
