Jigoku Shoujo Series (NO spoilers)
« on: September 07, 2008, 11:50:25 PM »
With the third season coming, I'm anxious to see what it is like. I have not seen the first or second season yet. I've begun to snatch couple of the 2nd seasons to see which is better Ayu's or Shinsen-Subs. I couldn't find the first season anywhere, so I went back to a private FTP and snatched it off of there and it seems like Ayu subbed the first season as well.

I know lots of people seen this series and highly recommended it. Who've seen it and what do you think about it? If you need to use spoilers use the spoiler tag please. Otherwise just give us some good things about it. Once I finish Fairy Musketeer Akazukin (on ep. 23) I'll start watching this one.*all ears*

I really like it even though it can be depressing at times (I enjoy these types, like Bokurano), but I usually hear the opposite in that many don't.

The first half of season 1 seems episodic, but a storyline will pick up leading to a satisfying end.  Season 2 explains in detail of everyone's history and it's ending is very conclusive, so that I would've never thought a season 3 would ever be made.

Although the ending kinda implied that

First and second season were enjoyable, even though some episodes tended to annoy me. I liked the main plot in the first one more.

Great anime!

Seen season 1 and 2 and I've loved every second off the show.
Though the first half off season 1 might have been a bother as they where episodic and no real story was there but just as you started to bore you got the story there in the end and then you where hooked!

Can't wait for season 3.

When I first heard the initial idea behind the whole series, I laughed and said I am not watching that because that is just plan retarded. The problem was, the official artwork was awesome so I ended up watching it, and buying the DVDs.

Having seen the first two seasons, my view is that the first part of Season One is dumb. It felt like the writes had no idea where the show was going and had to do something. Then it finally picked up. Season Two was great, except for the occasional episode that seems pointless (seems most anime have one or two of these). So with a little luck Season Three was be great, can't wait until October and the first subs.

EDIT: Has anyone watched the Live Action show? From a trailer I saw, it looks truly horrible.

EDIT2: I also hear that Mitsuganae will be the last season. Maybe one or two OVAs will show up.

The Jigoku Shoujo official site has been updated for Mitsuganae. http://jigokushoujo.com/

None spoiler stuff: Premier is October 4, OP: Tsukihana by Nana Kitade; ED: Ichinuke by Mamiko Noto.

Spoilers for Mitsuganae:

According to the wiki shinsen and some anon speed sub group said they are doing subs for this. So chances are it wont be that long before we see some.

It'll get subbed sooner or later.

...sigh ...Shinsen? Their subs are alright, just wish a group like Eclipse would pick this up.

The biggest problem is, is for some reason Jigoku Shoujo doesn't seem very popular. The first season had 20+ subbers (most dropped or stalled; in all languages), and the second had 12 subbers (only two English). Only a few TV stations licensed outside of Japan, none in USA or UK. Funimation's DVD release was weak at best; they did no advertising (the only reason I heard about it was I saw some official artwork). And as of yet no one has licensed Futakomori, despite the fact that it has been on DVD in Japan for most of a year. sigh :(

EDIT: I just listened to the OP and ED (names in previous post), and I have to say they are not that great. They should have hired SNoW again. If you want to hear them follow the link below. It is in a spoiler box because the page has screenshots from the first Episode.

First sub is up, two weeks on the dot. ;D
I have never heard of the subber group (Aero) but the quality is good.

Something wrong with other fan subbers for not subbing this? Are they been threatened?

I don't think it is anything like that. Jigoku Shoujo, as I stated previously, doesn't seem as popular as some shows. Also subber groups may just be taking their time. Or since the DVDs will be available in EDIT: December (in Japan), it is possible that they are waiting.

Having now actually watched the whole first episode, I can say this season is going to be great.

Hope someone starts subbing this. =( I'm building steam before I start watching the first season. Getting that "anime energy level" up, haha.

I'm told Shinsen Subs is actually going to work on this like they did the previous seasons, however their translator is on vacation, sick, or stuck in a interdimensional rift, I don't remember the exact reasoning.

Oh... according to AnimeDB you can now get it in Portuguese, so we know have two options.

EDIT (10/25/08): Another English sub has appeared from Yuurisan Subs. The video quality is okay but the sub translation doesn't seem accurate; doesn't sound like natural speech.

Shinsen Subs has finally released Mitsuganae. Will post rating as soon as I finish downloading.

EDIT: For those of you who care here is my vote on all the currently available subs:
1. Shinsen Subs (best video and sound; some of the translations are off)
2. FTP Anime Fansubs (good video and sound)
3. Aero Subs (good video, but small resolution; some odd translations choices or lack there of; fast)
4. Yuurisan Subs (very similar to Aero)
5. AoShen (horrible video, not worth the time or HDD space)

I wouldn't mind watching any fansub releases, as long as the timing, quality, and translation/edits were done at a good level. Chihiro's release of Vampire Knight was horrible in all honesty, but I didn't care cu'z it was completed before any other fansub and they didn't do a very poor job at it.

Alright, aside from that. Thanks for the update, so the 3rd season for Jigoku is currently being subbed by Shinsen. That's good.

Shooting this back up.

Watching first season, first episode of this. Best time to watch this is around this time, at night. How scary ... Never seen this series before as season 3 is about to be finished subbing. I hear there is going to be season 4 ~
